SOURCE: Kenmore Progressive vacuum clogs continuosly

Try taking the bottom off and this will reveal if you have something clogging up the flexible tube. Just did this last night there was a ton of junk clogging the tube and I cleaned it all out and put it back together now it works fine. Seems like with the design of the vacuum this will always be a problem.

Caught fridge of a blanket in vaccum. Turned off and remove object. Now beater bar does turn. How to fix?

Sounds like the belt either just slipped off, or is broken.
It's normal when the beater gets jammed.

Can you spin the beater easily?

I sucked in a sock or something. How do I get at it?

remove the lower floor unit plate,, and use a wire coat hanger to fish out the ' sock '. if it is way up the hose - then you might need to remove the hose from the unit and try and work out the blockage using your wire or a stiff dowel.

Kenmore InteliClean 116.35923502 Two, I believe unrelated, problems. 1) The InteliClean sensor lights stay amber and red even when the machine is in the upright position and the suction line is...

I had the same problem with the amber inteliclean light continually on. I found the problem to be in the plastic housing that connects the suction hose to the back of the upright section. You have to remove three screws and gently pull the hose housing off the vacuum. Inside I found a hairy clump that was caught on the inside of the hose. The optical "dirt sensor" is just inside the fitting on the upright section. When dirt or other stuff blocks the optical path of the sensors, the amber light will illuminate. My vacuum had an uneven cut on the hose which caused a snag point for hair, dirt and debris. Once this was removed, the vacuum worked like new.

Regarding the roller, this unit has an integrated motor in the roller. I would guess that you will need to take it apart, and hopefully only clean it up. If you need bearings, that will likely be expensive.

I have a Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum - Purple, and it worked just fine. I emptied the canister (like always) and put it back in place. I turned on the vacuum to it immediately shutting down (motor)...

Make sure that something didn't fall into the fan assembly in the base when the canister was removed. The motor should have an overload reset switch. Try moving the motor manually (power plug out) to make sure that it isn't bound up.

Loud noise from Kenmore Progressive Bagless Inteli-Clean

Here is a possible solution. If the vacuum sounds normal when the green light comes on, then the issue is a suction bypass. Kenmore built a suction bypass in to help cool down and protect the motor should someone either never clean the filter, empty the canister or somehow manage to clog the hose. There is a spring holding the bypass closed and is overridden by vacuum suction. I guess the spring becomes weak, allowing high suction to pull it open which in turn reduces suction so it closes again. It can do this several times per second making a loud racket and slightly affecting performance until the sensor goes green, then the vacuum suction is too low to overcome the spring tension thus why it sounds fine then. The trick? The very hard way (what I did) was to open the vacuum, open the casing where the spring is and pull it apart slightly to increase the spring tension. The easy way is to put tape over the hole where the bypass is. The inlet is under the hose track on the back on the right side as you're looking at it. The hole is about the size of a quarter and you'll see fins across the hole. The tape would keep the suction. The motor would still pull back the bypass but since tape is applied, there would be nothing to reduce the suction thus keeping performance and reducing the noise. However, this circumvents the intended design so you do so only at your own risk.

Getting suction to use attachments

When the vacuum is in the upright position, it should give you suction thru the hose.
