I just replaced the black ink and it is telling me it is empty when i know it is full

Hello and welcome to FixYa

If you have replaced the ink and you are sure that u done it correct and now If your printer won't accept it or print at all, you can try performing a hard reset to try and trick the printer into thinking it has a new cartridge.

  • Open the cover and take out the cartridges.
  • With the cover open, unplug the power source from the printer.
  • Wait 20 - 30 seconds for the printer to reset.
  • Install the cartridges and close the cover.
  • Plug in the power source.
  • Turn the printer on and let it go through its regular start up process.

The hard reset option is not a guaranteed fix, but it is a good idea to try; it works on many models and brands very well but there are some that fail to recognize the refilled/re manufactured cartridges after a reset, In that condition best option is to Contact HP Service Providers

If the replacement is a compatible bought from cartridge world it's probably that causing the problem. they don't work in my hp officejet.
make sure you're using proper hp cartridges and if they don't work it must be the printer.

How do I know there is ink in a black cartridge?


Patrick,
the display will ask you to replace cartridge if no ink. Some cartridges are transparent and you can see ink level - I don't know if yours are.

These printer required replace cartrigde empty to continue printing
You must replace only the cartrigde empty

Printer keeps telling me that the yellow cart is empty and I have put a new one in


Are you positive it says the yellow cart is empty? Because that brother printer is designed to say that a cartridge is empty whenever ANY of the color cartridges are empty. Usually it doesn't tell you which one is really empty either. So even if you replaced the yellow cartridge and say, the black cartridge is empty, it still won't let you print until you replace that empty black cartridge, nor will you know which of the cartridges is empty unless you pull them out of the printer and manually check the ink levels.

Its pretty much a guessing game with those old brother ink printers.

Did you remove the plastic sticker over the print head of the cartridge?

Are you using a refilled cartridge? Most cartridges have a sensor that tells the printer how much ink is left. When companies refill them they do not replace the sensor, so a completely full cartridge will still tell the printer that it is empty.

Can't Print with black ink because all color ink are empty.


yes you need to install all cartridge before printing any page ...I have also this model...but u need to install all 4 cartdge. before printing any page wheather color or blacknwhite..

Only black cartridge empty, but 3 full color crtrige say empty


Remove the color cartridges. On one end you can see the opaque
ink tank inside the main cart. housing. Cut a piece of black electrical
tape to fit around the three sides visible of the ink tank. Make sure the tape fits inside the housing and adheres to the tank itself. This makes the printer think your ink is always full but you can always tell when you need to refill/replace the ink(right?). Good Luck!

Printer says ink near empty

Printer will not print black.


Try removing the magenta completely and shut the lid then open again then insert the new magenta and see if the ink device level on the PC shows full. Sounds like the system needs resetting. Alternatively change the magenta and power on and off the printer and see if this resets it.
