Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I was given an HP C4680 that prints unevenly and skips whole areas during printing. Any ideas on how to fix this. Thought I would open it up and see if anything is loose or stuck - but am baffled on how to open it up. Any ideas? Thanks! Joyce Carlstedt

Welcome to FixYa!.

Here's a quick checklist.

1. Use a good ink cartridge or better yet a genuine HP ink cartridge to ensure quality printing.
2. Sometimes, print-quality issues can be resolved during a period of inactivity. Consider waiting for about 40 minutes, and then try the print job again.
3. Load the paper print side down in the input tray. Many papers have printing and non-printing sides, like photo paper and other special media. Usually, the smoother side is the "print side," and sometimes the non-print side has a logo of the paper manufacturer on it.
4. Do not use wrinkled or curled paper. Load only clean, wrinkle-free paper into the product.
5. Try using a different paper. This will determine if the problem is related to the paper.
6. Check the print quality settings:

  • In the software program you are trying to print from, click File , and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  • Select your product, and then click Properties . The printer Properties dialog box opens.
  • Click the Printing Shortcuts tab.
  • Under Printing Shortcuts , click the type of job you are trying to print.
  • Review the following options, and then make any necessary changes.
  1. Paper sizes : Make sure that the selected option matches your paper size.
  2. Paper type : If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, select that option.
  3. Print quality : If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, decrease the print quality.
  • Click OK , and then click OK again to start the print job.
7. Check the ink levels on your product, and then replace low or empty cartridges according to the results. Follow these steps to check the estimated ink levels using the HP Toolbox.
  1. Make sure the product is on and connected to the computer.
  2. Double-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor on the Windows taskbar. HP Solution Center opens.
  3. In HP Solution Center , click Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox . The Printer Toolbox opens.
  4. Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab to view the current estimated ink levels for both cartridges.
If the ink-level graphic shows low or empty cartridges , and you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, replace the cartridges.

Please try these suggestions first. If the issue is not resolved, we will proceed in cleaning the cartridge and the nozzles.

Keep me posted.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Hp photosmart c4680

The HP C4680 is a powerful all-in-one printer that combines an easy interface and connection process with powerful printing capability.
With a small time investment and minimal effort, even the least tech-savvy home user among us can have their HP C4680 up and running in no time, and take full advantage of all of its printing power.

Connect the AC adapter from the AC terminal on the upper right-hand side of the back panel of the printer to an electrical outlet or surge protector.
Power on the printer using the power button on the front panel of the printer and specify language and country preferences using the prompt on the main display of the printer.

Remove the pink tape from the print heads on the provided ink cartridges.
The tape should come off easily with gentle pressure.

Install the cartridges by opening the main door on the front of the printer and placing the cartridges into the cartridge cradles.
The HP logo should be facing up. Push the cartridge into the cradle until it clicks into place.

Attach the USB cable from the printer's USB port to a USB port on your computer and power on the printer.
Install the setup CD that came with the printer into your computer's CD-ROM drive and follow the steps for installing the printer software on your computer.
Your HP C4680 is now set up and ready to use.

HP C4680 Goes Offline

Hi
Just a thought, did you use the HP CD that came in the box?
Go to Apple's website and look under the support - downloads section. You'll find a mega-sized download of up-to-date HP drivers. Download it and install it.
Then open the print and Fax setting in system preferences and remove the existing HP printer, You should then have no printers listed in the printer box.
make sure the printer is connected to the macbook and switched on and then use the Plus symbol to add a new printer. In less than a moment your printer name should appear in the empty space. Select it and wait. You should then get a thing saying 'Print Using...." It should fill in automatically with info about the driver being used.
Do what ever it asks and then close the window and see if you can print without the earlier problems.
