My Acer Aspire one dosent charge completely to 100%, it stops at 87%. I have tried letting the battery run down completely, then starting a new charging process. formally it charges to 100%, then 3 days ago it doesnt get above 91%, then today i noticed it had droped to 87%, despite charging it over the night till morning

Replace the battery...

This happened to me once. Try giving at least a couple hours to run and if it is still stuck, power it down, disconnect the battery and AC cord for about one minute and then reinstall battery and AC cord.Boot up and see if it runs successfully. If not, a system restore may be in order...

First try a REFRESH by discharging it COMPLETELY than re-charging it COMPLETELY (do that 4-6 times) nice week end project ha!, than if it still won't charge completely ASK FOR A REPLACEMENT OR REFUND... (if it's new it should be under waranty)

As rechargeable batteries age they build up what is called a 'memory' or a 'charge memory'....

Let me explain how this works...you have a new battery and you run your laptop normally until it hits 15% charge then you charge it up and use it again until about 15% then charge it again....with the charge only dropping to 15% the battery builds up a 'memory' of that over a period of time (usually over at least a year up to a couple years) and then your battery's maximum capacity is no longer 100%. Same thing happens if you dont charge it fully each time, after a while it becomes incapable of taking a full charge.

What you can do to stop that in the future....when you get a new battery every now and then run its charge down to 1% then charge it to maximum. By doing that on a regular basis you help make sure the battery remembers its full charge capacity.

it needs a new a\c power block inside they are cheap and semi difficult to repair i wouldnt think it would be over 100$ max but it isnt in my lap to inspect so this is my opinion ok

Sorry. It seems that your battery is dead.
If your laptop is working fine on AC power only (with the battery disconnected), then your battery will need to be replaced.

Regarding the Battery, some intelligent batteries remember the charge. If the first time you do not let it discharge completely, then it remembers that setting and never charges more than that. If it went flat under battery power and not mains,Try removing battery completely, and then starting via mains without battery installed, and see if that fixes

The battery needs to be conditioned. To condition a battery, plug in the AC adaptor and charge it to 100%. Unplug the AC adaptor and run the battery completely down to 0% or until the computer shuts itself down or goes into a hibernate mode. Once this occurs, plug the AC adaptor back in and fully re-charge the battery to 100% again. You should now be good to go.
