Question about Seagate Cheetah 15K.4 (ST3146854SS) 147 GB SCSI Hard Drive

2 Answers

Hi I have a Seagate Cheetah 15k SCSI drive with LSI Logic Controller. It won't boot up. I have installed the drive in a windows XP PC and I can see the drive in Disk manager but it shows unallocated disk space. So that means that the partition is missing or corrupt. The drive was running Win Server 2003. I would like to repair the partition.

Unallocated disk space means that the file system is corrupted. You could try to access the data using a Linux Live-CD - they access the data directly and are much more tolerant of NTFS file system errors.
You could also try this http://findandmount.com/ It has allowed me to access data that even some Linux distro's deemed irrecoverable. But beware, this is a program with problems - you can format the partition by accident very easily; be careful at what you do, don't click on something unless you are absolutely sure.
Either way once you have access copy the files immediately.

browse over to http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/enterprise-hard-drives/hdd/cheetah-15k/ and select the options on the right hand side that match your drive. That will give you the model number.

Then go to https://apps1.seagate.com/downloads/request.html and fill in the model and serial numbers to get the right software drivers.

Trying to find the jumper settings for a Seagate 36G 80PINS SCSI 15K RPM HDD Hard Drive with an apparent part number 8E036JO (all my Google searches say it's a Maxtor), but the one I have is Seagate....

SCSI hard drives and devices have a jumper setting to configure the SCSI ID.
Each SCSI device must have a different ID.
The jumper/s are set for the following positions across 3 pairs of pins
: : : = SCSI ID = 0 no jumpers - usually for the boot hard drive
: : I = SCSI ID = 1
: I : = SCSI ID = 2
: I I = SCSI ID = 3
I : : = SCSI ID = 4
I : I = SCSI ID = 5
I I : = SCSI ID = 6
I I I = SCSI ID = 7
This gives a total of 8 possible SCSI devices on one SCSI controller.
