Question about Ryobi ZRRY46501 Factory-Reconditioned 12 Amp 3.42 HP Electric Tiller Cultiv

Open Question

Ryobi RY46501A Cultivator Tines barely turn when off ground and under load will not turn at all. Any ideas what it takes to fix it? I assume it is a gearbox problem. I checked a part dealer and the gearbox was over $200 alone. I don't know if the gearbox can be repaired or not.

SOURCE: Ryobi ry60514 tines won't turn

there are shear bolts that hold the tines on. they are designed to snap when u hit something big such as a big rock or pipe or something like that. they are designed to snap at so much pounds of pressure so u dont break any gears or gearshafts. a lot of times people dont realize this and put regular screws or bolts in it and run it. when they hit something they ussually snap the gearshaft inside the tiller. i have replaced this on my fathers tiller cause he did the same thing. so either u might need to put new shear bolts in or if u had a regular bolt in u probably snapped a gear shaft or a gear.

Detatch the HEAD and rotate it and then install it. There is a good chance you have Jammed the Head and this should reduce the pressure and allow it to work.

Does the engine turn over? If not then it has most likely seized. If the engine turns but the blades won't then make sure you didn't wrap something around the tines causing it to bind up

Tines stop under load

you have to get someone with a big tractor to "break" the ground up first. A tiller is just that...Not a plow
