Restoring the factory settings on your laptop can also help resolve problems with an unstable laptop.
You should also restore the factory settings on your laptop if you plan on selling it or giving it to a family member or friend.

Restart or turn on your Fujitsu laptop. Press "F12" repeatedly when the Fujitsu logo appears on the screen to be redirected to the Boot Menu.
Highlight "Recovery and Utility" using the arrow keys on the keyboard, then press "Enter."
A progress bar will appear at the bottom of the screen while the computer is loading the recovery files.
When the files have been loaded, the System Recovery Options window will be displayed.

Select a keyboard layout, then click "Next." The Operating System dialog box appears.
Choose "Use recovery tools...," then click "Next." If prompted, type your administrator password, then press "OK." The System Recovery Options window will appear again.

Select the "Recovery" tab, then click "Restoring the Factory Image (only C:\drive)."
The restoration process will begin, and the laptop will be restored to its original factory settings.
When the process is complete, the computer will automatically restart and boot up to the Windows Setup screen.
Begin personalizing your copy of Windows.

Hard reset

You may need to restore your Acer computer to its factory defaults if a virus damages operating files or if the system begins acting erratically for unknown reasons.
Restoring an Acer to factory defaults returns the computer to its original state when first purchased.

Click on the Start menu.
Then, select all programs, Acer Empowering Technology and Acer eRecovery Management.
If this is the first time you have opened the program it will prompt you to set up a password and create a backup CD.
Click the Restore button and select the option that reads "Restore system to factory defaults".

Wait for the computer to finish the restore process and reboot.
Restoring for the Boot Screen

If your computer will not boot up properly, you can attempt to reach the restore option by pressing the Alt button and the F10 button at the same time.

When the eRecovery menu appears, choose "restore system to factory defaults".

Wait for the recovery process to complete and the computer to restart.

How do I reset my password that I forgot on my Dell Vostro 220

if you forgot the password for tyour winows log in theres no real easy way to change the password. one way is to get a password recovery tool. you have to be carefull because there is a alot of scams out here. in my experience heres the top five i suggest
  1. Stellar Phoenix Password Recovery - Simple startup utility resets a forgotten admin or users' password using a familiar Windows-like program interface instead of command-line.
  2. Password Kit - Top rated version of Passware's Password recovery app, supports Windows Vista and RAID/SCSI/SATA drives.
  3. Petter Nordahl-Hagen's Offline NT Password & Registry Editor - A great boot CD/Floppy that can reset the local administrator's password.
  4. Openwall's John the Ripper - Good boot floppy with cracking capabilities.
  5. EBCD - Emergency Boot CD - Bootable CD, intended for system recovery in the case of software or hardware faults
  6. the next step i could recommend if you do not want to do this is to try a system restore. if you have the system cds that come with the computer you can put them in and when starting up computer you should see setup or system restore in bottom right or left corner. it will say hit f12 or f2 you are going to want to go into there and boot from cd. once you boot from c you will be able to do the system restore and set computer back to factory defaults.
