remove the black cart, use a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol and clean the contacts on the cart as well as the contacts on the ink well (where the cart fits) .. try again ..

are you sure you replaced with a propper cart ?

if that fails remove the ink well, clean that and all the carts then replace ..

    carts is short for cartridge.

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 05, 2011

remove all carts, clean the head (circuits of all cars) reinsert them, unplug you printer, plug it back in, turn on, hold the triangle button for 5 seconds.. try that and post back,,

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 05, 2011

and your sure its new ink tanks, not generic (clones or refils)

try another black ink cart,, if that fails then we will be needing a new printing head *part that hold the carts*

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 05, 2011

We are not miracle workers, we are not their on spot. So its right that if you give us the symptom of the problem you having you have to go through the series of steps to trouble shoot and solve it. in your case the problem is the printer cant read your blank ink tank. Why ?,, you said you changed the cart so it aint that, we cleaned the pins so it aint that. the only thing that remains is your print head. had i just told you to buy a new print head that would no be right would it ? could have been a smaller problem and hopefully it was but its not. Everyone new post depends on the answers of your previous one. So before I can suggest something we can try I have to wait for you to respond and then try it, wait for you to respond with a reply. Unfortunately from where I am you are my eyes and ears on the problem, I have to depend on your input and responses, and in most cases the problem is small and has easy fixes but in some like yours the easy part isn't working. We have eliminated the carts (you said they were original and new) , Cleaned the contacts, in case we missed the reset button we tried that as well, the only option i have so far left is to replace the ink well (ink head) the first thing i mentioned we should clean but then stopped short of giving you instructions of removal because I was expecting it to be something simpler. It;s not like we're out of ideas or anything just want to make sure there is noting more we cant try before you go taking your equipment apart. I know your frustrated with a not working machine, and wanted it fixed quickly but that wont be the case with you sadly. Now we have to remove the print head. 1.) remove all cartridges, 2.) remove the print head, 3.) use methylated spirit's and clean the contacts inside the head, outside , and in the printer. *very carefully9* do not bend them....
4.) replace , head, carts, and turn on machine, hold triangle button for 5 seconds and release.

the ink head is the piece the cartridges fit into. If this fails the only option you have left is a new ink head. The problem is the ink head's contacts are corroded or damaged that's its not detecting your ink cartridges. The manufactures make extras because a failed ink-head inst an uncommon problem , happens people all the time. The problem is waiting on the replacement to arrive.

Welcome to Fixya

This happened to my printer. This is common issue when using Continous ink system. Since contact chipset that is with the CIS is not genuine canon chips. This issue will show up randomly. All you need to do is to reseat the cartridge and clean the metal contacts. Have the computer redect the cartrdige by using the maintenance menu. If same thing will happen then you need to go to the technician who install the CIS and have him replaced the cartrdiges since the metal contacts there is failing.

Thank you for using Fixya!

Hi

Error U052 means incorrect installation or a faulty print head. Remove the cartridges and re-seat thema. If this doesn't help then check whether the print head seems to be fine and the ribbon wire connected to cartridge is fine and contacts are clean. Make sure you are using original Canon cartridges. If this doesn't help then you replace the cartridges with a new one. You can also try and reset the printer --
1 Press and hold both the "Stop/Reset" and the "Power" buttons on your printer.

2 Release the "Stop/Reset" button.

3 Push the "Stop/Reset" button two times, while continuing to press the "Power" button.

4 Release the "Power" button. Your printer is now in Service mode.

5 Insert paper into the paper tray.

6 Push the "Stop/Reset" button four times.

7 Press the "Power" button to turn off the printer. The printer will print counter information about the ink absorber before powering off. The printer will now work normally.

Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

    Hi

Remove the cartridges from the printer and restart it. Once printer is switched on it will ask for cartridges, insert the cartridges when it asks. If same error still appears then follow below procedure to reset---

    1. Turn off your printer

    2. Press and hold the STOP/RESET button

    3. Press and hold Power ON button

    4. While holding the Power ON button, release the STOP/RESET button

    5. While holding still the Power ON button, press twice the STOP/RESET button

    6. Release the Power ON button

    7. Wait until it display an "idle" message. It will take about a minute.

    8. When "idle" appear, open the top cover to expose the cartridges.

    9. Lift up the cover for cartridge holder and take out both the black and color cartridges

    10. Return the cover of cartridge holder and turn off the printer

    11. Return the top cover and turn on the printer again

    12. After the printer initialize, return the cartridges.

Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Try holding down the Stop/Reset button on the top of the printer for approximately 10-20 sec. It should start to print. If not try a different cartridge.

Tip

Ciss and refillable cartridge systems

Depending on printer brand and model, there are lots of ciss (continuous ink supply system) solutions to buy.<br /><br />Bare in mind, though, if you are planning to use printer heavily, there are other considerations you should think about:<br /><br />1. If not used regularly, an air bubble may occur and it takes a while to pop it up. Also ink may dry in certain area and it's a mess to resolve.<br /> <br />2. The ink supply (depending on supplier) may not be good as the original; color depth and durability wise.<br /><br />3. Cartridge recognition problems may occur from time to another, so it must be removed and inserted again.<br /><br />4. CISS system usually have a chip to fool the printer and it may fail with any liquid contact.<br /><br />5. ink pad inside printer fills quickly on heavy use, thus its wise to direct the pipe into an external tank (found inside and in the back of printer for Epsons) <br /><br />In conclusion, if you intend to have more than 100 pages/month, consider compatibles or refillable cartridges. ciss is good for +200 pages/month.<br /><br />e.g. (epson rx685 blanks out all 6 cartridges except for the black after 10x15 photo's in with high quality enabled)<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Please note that these tips are based on experience with 4-6 cartridge systems for Canon and Epson printers.</span><br /><br /><br />If you find this informative, kindly <span style="font-weight: bold;">vote positively</span> for me to continue sharing. Light Cyan printing problem in R230 model printer noozle seems to be bocked. From: nain

Cleaning cycles use lots of ink. Go to http://www.inkproducts.com/ and buy a CISS for your printer. It will save you tons of money, you never change cartridges and never run out of ink [yes, you do have to fill the tanks once in a while] Bulk ink is cheap. The CISS will pay for itself in a month. Don't forget to get a Waste Ink Container, it hooks up to the printer and instead of the unusable ink going to the waste ink pad, it goes to the container which can then be emptied, washed and used over and over. The waste ink pad when full will need to be replaced or the printer will not print. Changing the pad is messy and a PITA. They have cleaning kits.

Just replaced my ink cartridges and now cannot get the printer to work. All settings appear correct and I have unplugged it and restarted it a number of times. It is a CX9400 model

Did you remove the removable tabs? Push down on the carts to be sure they are seated. Call Epsontech support. Then, Get a CISS for your printer. It will save you TONS of MONEY, never change a cartridge again and it will pay for itself in a month.

I have the same printer and use the CISS.

Hi my epson r285 with ciss is leaving ink blotches all over my print outs, predominantly black, but less frequent with the other colours. This is only a new printer. Head cleaning, noxzzle cleaning and...

It might be caused by waste ink at bottom plate around head sprayer. For some CISS (bottle) design, ink will flow to head, and then flow to pad, when printer off. So, you must close respiratory hole at bottle when printer is not used. For cleaning, turn off printer (unplug power) when head is not in parking position. Move head to center. Put wet tissue (with cleaner or hot water) at top of pad (at head cleaning mechanics). Move head to parking position. So bottom plate contact with tissue. Wait for 10 minutes, repeat 3 times. Check nozzle.

Canon MP530 U052 Error

The dreaded U052 error means that the 'chip' fitted to the Cartridge is not responding .. Canon (like all printer mfgs) makes all it's profit from selling Ink .. so they fit these chips to try to prevent you refilling or using a 'compatible' replacement cartridge

You have to move the chip from the Canon cartridge to the 'compatible' and (it seems) the chips are particularly sensitive to static / damage .. many people end up blowing the chips during the swap over .. or even when fitting the original genuine cartridges to a brand new unit for the first time ...

If the unit is brand new, take it back and demand a replacement ... if you have just swapped over the chip onto a compatible cartridge, you can try buying a genuine Canon cartridge (which will have a new chip) = hopefully that will do the trick

NB. I have seen some suggestions that canon's have a 'Service Mode' that allows you to disable the cartridge chip checking and allow you to print no matter what .. however I've never found any details ... perhaps some-one else has the details ??
