Check the sound settings, increase volume levels, check the mute button has not been checked. If you still have sound problems then re-install the audio driver.. You can download the audio and device drivers from the Sony WEB site. Select your model notebook and the Windows drivers you require. Please click on this link to the Sony support WEB site :- http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?PRODTYPE=1,24,72&DIRECTOR=DRIVER
The drivers for Windows 7 are not released by Sony. However, my experience says installing the Vista drivers will do the trick. I will tell you which all drivers to install in the computer to for mass storage device. Please install the drivers in the same order:
If you've checked all the settings with your sound driver, and maybe tried to boot another OS (Like ubuntu), it looks like there is anissue with your logic board. However many times it's a broken headphone jack too, so I wouldn't exclude thatpossibility. I work for Sony Repair NYC and we do this repair frequently.
If the sound was working before you reloaded VISTA, you have driver problems.
The best way to fix your problems is to check your device manager for flags and if found, remove them.
Next, go to sony's website and download your VISTA drivers and install them.
