Depending on the model, it sounds as if the bearing has gone bad and what you describe
as the ring are definitely the felt/ glides. This repair involves removing the front
door, then the front panel, The front panel usually comes off by depressing the clips
located about 2" from each end in the slot between the top of machine and the front
panel. Use a putty knife, the lid will usually hinge up. Remove two 5/16 hex screws
and unclip door switch. Lift front panel up and out. The felt kit and bearing kit
will be determined by the model number inside the door of the unit. I would also
replace the belt. Pay close attention to how the idler pulley is clipped into the base
as there are no screws holding it in place and note how the belt is routed. This is
a rather difficult repair and the bearing and glide kit cost about 25 dollars each and
another 10 for the belt. The felt kit is glued into place around the top inside of the
front panel with the supplied high temp glue
I recommend using spring
clamps and letting it set overnight before reassembly which saves much cursing.
The drum
lifts out and up usually to remove bearing assembly and is a simple bolt in affair.
Remember to secure power and unplug unit before servicing.
Reassembly usually requires a third hand to hold drum into position.
hope this helps.

Dryers do what they are designed to do, Dry things. In the process everything inside the drying cylinder makes dust and airborne particulates called Lint. The Biggest bane for dryers is Lint accumulation. Clean the Lint filter screen. If it detaches from the dryer housing with screws remove them. Clean out what you see if you have a wet vacuum with a small hose carefully push this down into the opening and vacuum it ou. Another thing pull your dryer out from the wall disconnect the power and remove the vent hose. Vacuum inside the opening in the back of the dryer. You would be surprised how much lint accummulates here. Lastly check your vent hose for lint accumulation or blockage. If you find it blocked, disconnect the hose from the vent going outside and clean it all out with a vacuum . Put it all back together and run a load of clothes if you dont see a marked improvement in circulation and drying time, then either the blower fan is n't working properly or you have a burned out thermostat. If you have heat flowing turn it up to max heat and see how hot it really gets if on opening the dryer you feel extreme heat then it is either working right or the thermostat is not shutting off at the high limit. the Thermostat is a piece of Bimetallic metal that is extremely sensitive to certain temperatures. When they reach the preset heat limit they shut off allowing the heating elements not to burn out. A good investment is to keep dryer maintenance at regular intervals. They sell dryer cleaning brushes and Vacuum hose attachments for getting into the deep crevasses and nether regions of your dryer. Good luck and happy drying

No lint on filter? Where is it all going? Checked exhaust vent bought a vacuum attachment and there is no lint. Twice and sometimes triple the drying time! Help!

Instructions
  1. Dryer Does Not Run
    • 1 Close the door firmly. The dryer will not operate if the door is not completely closed.
    • 2 Press the "Start" button firmly or push the knob in to start the dryer.
    • 3 Turn the dial past the "Off" position and away from "Wrinkle Prevent." The dryer will not start in the "Off" or "Wrinkle Prevent" position.
    Long Drying Times
    • 4 Remove the lint screen. Clean it and replace it.
    • 5 Check the temperature of the room. The dryer will not operate properly in temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • 6 Inspect the area around the dryer. It requires at least 1-inch clearance on the front and sides of the dryer. A 5-inch clearance is needed on the back of the dryer. Move the dryer, if needed.
    • 7 Separate large loads and do not use an air dry cycle.
    Lint, Stains and Wrinkles
    • 8 Clean the lint screen before drying each load of clothes to prevent lint buildup on clothing.
    • 9 Add fabric softener sheets before starting a drying cycle. If the sheets are added after the load has partially dried, they can leave stains on the clothing.
    • 10 Dry small loads and remove clothing as soon as the drying cycle completes to prevent wrinkling.
    Dryer is Noisy
    • 11 Check the inside of the dryer for loose change, buttons or other items. Empty the pockets on clothing before drying.
    • 12 Separate items that are knotted together and restart the load. Knotted or balled up clothing will bounce and make the dryer vibrate.
    • 13 Level the dryer. Turn the leveling legs on the front of the dryer clockwise or counter-clockwise until the dryer is level. Turning the legs clockwise will lower the dryer. Turning the legs counter-clockwise will raise the dryer.

Maytag dryer electric mde2400ayw doesn't seem to dry clothes and it doesn't feel warm inside

Sometimes blower wheels will get loose in dryers. Sometimes they will get a whole lump of lint in them or you can hear a rattling noise in the dryer, this is the blower wheel, its worn out and it can cause the fuse to blow too,or it can half *** work and take fifty forever's to dry the clothes.Or it could be just that the dryer needs a good blowing out .I use a lawn blower to get all the lint out of the dryer as well as the vent pipe and vent to outside. I take the filter HOUSING out and wash it also. That is, I remove the housing and clean is good! Making sure that the dryer is properly flowing air is a good thing!

First, The most common part would be the over limit safety, it will be mounted to the element housing. Second, there is a thermal fuse usually a small disk with a little fuse inside. You can find these (with your model no.) at www.Repairclinic.com .Good luck.

My dryer starts runs for a few minutes then stops with an E1 on

clear the exhaust tube of lint and make sure you have good air flow out of house and also if you happen to keep anything on top of your dryer please i say this to all NEVER keep anything on top ot it. Clothes or stacked items on top insulates your cabinet and makes dryer run improperly. Nowadays with sensors and all, it fools your machine when you have stuff on top of it. Good Luck
