Could be an intermittent provider issue, not sure. You could be selecting somebody else's tower that your provider has banned.
I tend to blame phone's antenna or an amplifier (if it has such). I have had exactly same happened to me two weeks ago with AT&T - "no access" on manual mode, unstable, weak, come-and-go connection. What I did was: 1. removed battery and SIM from the phone and kept it this way for maybe four hours 2. put those back in, did NOT turn the phone on. 3. completely charged the battery, i.e. once indicator says "battery is charged" I would unplug and plug back the AC cord - it will begin another incremental re-charge, at I would keep doing it for at least another hour. 4. turned the phone on - strong connection. You wanna try this?

As far as I know there are two possibilities to get this error message. One is poor signal of that respective network for which you just need to switch OFF and ON your mobile and the mobile will be able to receive the signal from near by tower. You may also get this error message when you are trying to insert a sim other than which the mobile is locked to.To solve this problem you need to unlock the phone from that particular network or use the same sim to which the mobile is locked to.To unlock get unlock code from http://www.onlinegsmunlock.com/supported-phones/rs5wp7/ OnlineGSMUnlock.com
Goto Menu-Settings-Connectivity-Mobile Networks-Search Mode. Change your setting here from manual to automatic. Restart. If it does not work. Select your network in manual mode. In manual mode it will show all the mobile networks available in that area.
It means your phone is not receiving signal from the network. First turn off your phone, remove the battery and insert in back in, then you turn on the phone. If it still does not receive signal, then you go to the phones menu, scroll to settings, then you select the network settings, after that select the manual network search, then a list will be searched out, select the network operating network of your Sim. If it still does not see the network, then it means there is an internal problem.
Hope this information helped.
>>1st reinsert the sim on the same mobile ...if not working then >> go to Tools>settings>networksettings>>select operator>>manual it will search for network then select the network according to ur service provider >>still if it doesnt work then use the sim on some other mobile ...or else change the sim
