Remove the memory card and you will find a switch on the left side of the card. It must be locked, so slide or push the lock on other side to open it and then insert the card back to the Camera.

Your problem carries all the hallmarks of "your card isn't fast enough". Check your manual to see what speed of card is required for HD video. If it doesn't say, try a card that says as least "Class 10" or "10Mb/s" or "66x". If you set the movie resolution down to 640x480 it has a better chance of working

Take out the memory card and you will see a small switch on the one side of it. Move the switch out of the lock position. It should say lock on one side of the memory card. Once you move the switch out of the lock position the camera is no longer write protected.

How do i transfer picturesstored in my coolpix s4000 internal memory card to my computer or sd card

If you have a working connection between your camera and your computer, then simply remove the memory card before making the connection. You'll be able to transfer the pictures from the internal memory, since the card is not present.

To copy pictures from the internal memory to the card, use the Copy command in the Playback menu. Full details are in the "Copy (Copy Between Internal Memory and Memory Card)" section of the manual (page 100 in my copy).

When my daughter was shooting a video her display said can't read memory card. Please advise. Eric

Unfortunately that may mean that the memory card has failed. Try reading it on a card-reader for the computer. If the computer can't see it, then you will have to purchase a new one.

The S4000 uses SD cards up to 2GB in size and SDHC cards up to 32GB in size. Don't worry about the make of the card, as long as you stick with the major brands (Lexar, PNY, SanDisk, etc).
