Question about Cell Phones

1 Answer

Cannot get an outside line, all I hear is a repetitive busy signal. The lines are working. When called they all ring. I already shut off power and disconnected interface jacks, then reconnected.

Welcome to Fixya

Try this procedure:

• Lift the handset and select a free line in one of the following ways:

• Press the line key 1 for line 1, line key 2 for line 2, and so on. (This is applicable only if the

Programmable Keys are programmed as line Keys, which is the default setting).

• Dial 9 to select a line from outgoing group 1.

• Dial 760 - 769 to select a line from outgoing groups 2 to 11 respectively.

• Dial the telephone number you require. Digits are sent to the line as they are dialed on CO Lines and T1 channels. If the switch is equipped with Primary Rate ISDN dial # after entering the last digit to send the digits immediately or wait for 3 seconds

To make an external call from a standard analog phone, go off hook, dial a line access code (9, 760 - 769) and when dial tone is returned, dial the external number. Digits are sent to the line as they are dialed on CO Lines and T1 channels. If the switch is equipped with Primary Rate ISDN, dial # after entering the last digit to send the digits immediately or wait for 3 seconds.

Why can't I rec or make calls?

What is happening when a call comes in are they getting a busy signal? If so your line is shorted out.. unplug all phones and see if caller hears a ring.. Then 1 at a time plug phones in. Check for a dial tone and press a digit, hang up and check and see if dial tone returns, repeat this on all phones, until you get to the phone that does not give you dial tone back after dialing a digit. That will be your bad phone... If the line was ring busy after all phones unplugged, call repair service..

Can not get a dial tone. Phone appears to be off the hook. How do I trouble shoot it?

Unplug the phone line from the fax machine. Wait at least 1 minute then call the phone number that goes to the fax machine from another line such as a cell phone. Make sure you get a ring and not a busy signal. If you get a ring then hang up the phone. Plug in the fax machine again and call the fax number again. If you get a busy signal then either your phone if off the hook, the switch that is actuated when the phone is placed in the cradle is bad or your modem in the fax machine itself has gone bad. Another thing to try is unplug the fax machines power cord for 30 seconds then plug it back in. I have seen the modems get "locked up" and keep the phone line open. Unplugging will sometimes reset this and get it working again.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

"Line in use" on screen. can't call out or receive calls

First you need to diagnose where the problem is. I like an old corded phone for this. Unplug the cordless phones and plug a different phone. What tone do you hear if any? Find where your phone service comes in and open that box. (If you are lucky, you can just unplug the cable that runs to inside phone lines and plug in an RJ-11 jack (that spare phone). What do you hear? Older service boxes need a special connector to test that line. They are available but expensive (Cyberguys.com for example); a service technician from your phone company will have the tool.

If you hear either nothing or a fast busy signal at the outside connection, call the phone company. (could be a crossed connection or anything else) If you get a regular dial tone there but not inside, it's an inside problem and you'll need to pay for a service call or find the problem in your wall. Check the jacks and any visible wiring (like in a basement) for damage.

I hope this helps.

(who has had several phone outages that gave line in use errors that were outside problems. The phone company service person solved the problem quite quickly. One was a crossed line at the road; another was after a lightning strike damaged a part of the DSL installation)

When I dial a fax number I get a busy signal even though I know that the number is not busy because I have dialed it on my outside line and it works. This has happened repeatedly. I have unplugged...

Since you mentioned that you have an outside line, do you have to use a code to dial out normally? Try plugging in a phone to the line for your fax machine, and attempt to dial the number for the other fax machine using the phone. You should reach the fax and hear a high pitched sequence of tones. This is the other fax machine trying to establish a connection. If you still get a busy signal, try calling the owner and letting them know that their fax machine is not accepting incoming calls.

1 lines is ringing & another is not ringing

Somewhere you should have a programming and operating manual for your phone system. Typically in a Panasonic you turn on CALL WAITING for both Intercom and Outside lines via a code you dial at each phone on the intercom (7311# 7321# for a TA).

This is assuming that the lines are already programmed to ring at the phone.

I bught a kx-ta824, I just have one CO line and i want to put 4 extensions , but i couldn't. I can just recive 1 call and then the line sounds busy.

With one CO line you can only make or receive one external call at a time. You can have extensions connected on intercom calls, but once your CO line is in use, anyone calling in will get a busy signal, as will anyone in the office trying to make an outside call. You'll need additional CO lines if you want to have several outside calls going on at once.

Call waiting

call waiting is something which is not handeld by phone. This option has to be included in your service agreement with phone company. The easiest way to check is to keep line busy and make call to the telephone number. If you get busy signal , you do not have call waiting. If it rings, you should hear short mute on your new phone

Multi line system and phone still rings while I'm on another line

courtney,

Unfortunately if the receptionist is using priority call (f69) there's not much you can do. Priority call is an administrator programmed function that overrides when your on a call and when the set is in do not disturb. Maybe bribing the receptionist might be in order.

Fax problem

unplug the fax from the phone line. call it from you cell.if you hear your phones ringing in the house, plug the fax machine back into the jack. [you should still be on your cell phone] if the line goes dead or stops ringing, there is a short with the fax machine or wire to the jack.if you hear a busy signal without the fax plugged in, unplug everything you have plugged into phone jacks thruout the house. call your # again.if you hear ringing on your cell phone, plug everything back in one at a time.[again while still on your cell phone] if it was one of the phones plugged into a jack, when you plug the shorted phone back into the jack, the line will go dead again. that phone or cord is the problem.
if still rings busy when everything is unplugged, then call your phone company. it can be an inside wire or jack problem, or the problem is outside your home.
hope this helps

"Receiving Sleep" on Brother Fax 4100

The sleep mode is only a power save mode. You may not have the machine in the correct fax receive mode. If the machine is on a line by itself it needs to be set to fax only, if line is shared with a telephone it needs to be in fax/telephone, if you share the machine with an answering machine it needs to be in TAD mode, and so forth. Each time you press the MODE key it will change the receive mode. Most people hit this key by mistake and change the MODE and the unit will not pick up calls. Press the MODE key until you are in the correct mode. To make sure the machine will print, press reports and then the 1, this will print a help list. If the help list prints you know that the machine works. Then check to make sure the machine is in the correct fax receive mode.
