As they say, I have the Epson manual and I have already tried everything you suggested. I know where the problem is - it is this small lever on the right hand part of the tray that assists in lifting the paper to the printing mechanism but I do not know how to fix it or if it can be fixed. I just hope I did not pay $12 for some "expert" repeating what is in my owners manual.

  • nieporte Apr 02, 2011

I HAVE ALREADY DONE WHAT THIS "EXPERT" HAS SUGGESTED. AGAIN, THE PROBLEM IS WITH A 4 INCH PLASTIC LEVER TYPE MECHANISM (OR ARM) THAT SOMEHOW "LIFTS" THE PAPER TO THE "WHEELS" THAT PRINT THE PAGE.

  • nieporte Apr 02, 2011

I have cleaned the rollers. As I said to the two previous experts it is the lever or arm on the right side of the tray that is not working properly. Any ideas on how to fix?

  • nieporte Apr 02, 2011

To All Experts: Do Not -- I repeat do not give me the reference guide fix-its.
Again, the problem is with a 4 inch plastic arm that is in the paper trey near the wheels that assists or guides the paper to the wheels.
I do not know how to fix it.........can anyone out there help.

Hello.

I think you're referring to the black plastic sensor arm that hangs down on the right side. Look for where it fell off at the bottom of the printer and snap it back into its holder.

The arm that usually falls off is above the paper and it hangs down into a slot. There's also a registration sensor under the plastic. Lift out the plate below the toner cartridge (that usually doesn't have problems) The exit sensor is at the back of the fuser assembly and extends out to the right of it and interrupts an optical sensor. Check all of these for proper operation.

Hope this helps.

Check that the paper you are using is within the specifications for your printer. Should be 16 to 24 lbs letter-size. For feeding one-page at a time you can use up to 42 lb paper.

Is the display panel blank when you turn the printer on?

Turn off the printer and check the power cable conncections; then turn printer back on. Make sure printer has power and display panel is on.

Is your printer on-line?

Press ON LINE once to set the printer on line. The ON LINE light should come on.

The ON LINE light is one but still nothing prints.

Your computer may not be properly connected to your printer. Test the connection as per page 10 of your Setup and Maintenance Guide. The interface cable could be incorrect or your imaging cartridge may be empty. Refer to section 3-4, page 57 of the User Guide for more details. You may also need to consider other setup issues with fonts and emulations. Try to work through and eliminate possible problems.

The paper pick up fingers and rollers get smooth and polished with use and then slide on the paper. Clean the rollers and pick mechanisms with isopropyl alcohol to rejuvenate them and restore their grip on the paper. Do this as far along the paper path as you can get, using Q Tips where necessary and turn the rollers to clean their whole surfaces.

My apologies, if we pick up a question from the questions page, we do not see colleague's or your previous remarks, so to us the question looks unhandled.
The only thing you can do is to strip away the casings of the machine to where you can see the operation of that lever and work out why it is not operating - something slipped out of joint, a broken arm or bracket, a defective motor or plug come loose - that type of thing. You will have to over-ride any switches or sensors that stop the printer from operating with doors open etc while you try simulate the fault.
Again, sorry for repeating ourselves, none of it was intended as a slight on you or your abilities.

Thank you for using FixYa

Take the tray out and remove the paper.
Check inside and see if there is a paper jam.
Turn the printer off.
Open up the printer and see if the paper path is obstructed with anything, paper, paperclip, dirt, fuss and remove it.
Look at the paper you took out and see if it has been creased or out of alignment.
Take a new batch of paper and place it in the tray.
Turn the printer back on a watch the start up and see if the lights flash or anything sounds or looks different.
Try printing a sample page.

I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.

Welcome to FixYa!

Here are a few suggestions to try:

Try loading heavier stock paper, such as 24 lb. paper, if you haven't done so already.
Make sure there is 1/16 to 1/32 inch space on each side of the paper in the paper tray.

Move the paper type selector back and forth 5 times, to make sure it is not stuck.
Feed the tray with a minimum of 20 sheets of paper and try to see if it loads paper through.

The paper thickness lever has two settings, one for plain paper, (thin paper 20# to 24#) and one for envelopes and thick paper. It should be on the 0 setting for thin paper and on the + setting for thick paper and envelopes.

The paper adjustment lever may be adjusted in between the two settings to accommodate paper that is not standard or that the operating/environmental conditions have changed.

Make sure the paper is loaded far enough into the printer to ensure good contact between the paper and the paper feed mechanism.

If all else fails change the brand or type of paper used, the paper specifications are located in the printer's user's manual.

You can also try using the Epson cleaning sheet (has a sticky side) to pick up any excess paper residue. It's available from the Epson Store.

I hope this helps.

if you setup tray 1 any type, any size and tray 2 to plain, and letter size, it will allow you to use tray 2 for your plain letter jobs but will pull from the manual feed tray first only if the paper is in the manual feed tray if this makes any sense to you... please mark this as a fixya...

My HP printer is not feeding paper.

Here is the solution for your problem just go through the steps given below and you can fix it yourself.

1. Check to make sure your printer has paper in its paper tray. If your printer has paper, check to make sure that the tray is not overloaded. If you suspect your paper tray is overloaded, remove some paper from the tray and attempt to print again.

2. Use the same type of paper when stocking the tray with paper; do not mix different types of paper into a single stack. Mixing different brands and weights of paper in a single stack makes your printer more prone to paper feed problems. If you find that one particular type of paper causes consistent feed problems, switching to a different type or weight of paper may solve the problem.

3. Check to make sure the paper in the tray is whole. Torn and creased paper will cause problems with the printer.

4. Open your printer's rear access cover and inspect the paper feed rollers. Dusty or dirty rollers cannot grip the paper; clean them with a soft, damp cloth and water.

5. Count your printer's rollers. HP printers have six paper feed rollers; if your printer is missing rollers the paper will not feed correctly. Contact HP to replace the rollers and repair your printer.

Thanks.

It won't print - says manual feed - load paper tray. Its a brand new printer (Brother HL-4040CDN) and the paper tray is full

The printer has an "alternate" feed, i.e., for envelopes and/or for special paper.

Open the door to access that "manual" tray, take some paper from the "normal" tray, and insert the paper into the "manual" tray.

Or, on the printer's controls, set the "standard" feed, rather than the "manual" feed, and press PRINT.

Paper is in the feed tray, but it continues to say NO Paper??? Brother MFC-8460N any suggestions?

Could be a tab or spring broken off of the feed tray, dirty feed roller can cause that error when paper doesn't feed. Paper guide too tight so that paper can't lift to the feed roller also a possibility. Sensor above paper stack out of position.. many possibilities.

Printer can't feed paper from tray

You may need to clean the rubber feed roller with a damp towel, water only, or if parts are broken or missing, a new paper tray, around $20.00

Wont grip paper on feed, keeps 'saying' paperjam

I have had this problem after printing a large batch of sheets on a heavy matte photo paper. The roller picks up a 'polish' from the surface coating and then fails to grip. I have tried cleaning the roller, with some sucess, but the best solution I have found is to feed through several blank sheets (just page throws in a Word document) of a ordinary 80 gram paper. Doing this between smaller batches of the photo printing seems to keep things flowing.

Feed roller is dirty or worn thin, wipe rubber roller with damp cloth.
