My freezer is working fine, but my refrigerator is barely cool and both units are controlled by the same setting knob. This just happened all of a sudden. Everything in the refrig is spoiling.

It the fan blowing up in the freezer and no cool air is coming down to the fresh food section then I have seen this before. The drain for defrost is clogged. Instead of draining out it is pooling up between the freezer and fresh food side. You gotta thaw out the ice box and open the drain. Nothing to buy. Oil the fan motor with zoomspout oiler.

I have a Samsung RF268ABRS Unit all food in bottom freezer thawed. Unit is running and ref is cool. I notice that the fan dosent seem to blow. Closed freezer up and its cold, but no air moving. How do...

I had a similar problem. my samsung freezer would only cool to 20 degrees, which also resulted in the freezer ice maker not functioning. (fridge door ice maker still worked) If you hold the power freeze and power cool buttons down together for 8 seconds it will a diagnostic. found the answers on http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?topic=8206.0 , as too what the codes meant. Mine was throwing a freezer fan code error. ordered one online $30 and replaced it. seems to be working. TIP -The fan is located behing the rear panel in the freezer. I had two fans. The regular looking one is the freezer fan, the squirrel cage fan feeds the fridge ice maker. Also the new fan motors don't come with blades, just pull the blades off the old one and put it on the new motor. Don't push it on too far, make sure there is enough clearance so it spins freely.

The freezer is freezing but the fridge is not cooling

You have a bad fan motor that needs to be replace.
It's kind of a hassle because you will probably have to remove all the stuff in the freezer and completely thaw it out to get to the fan motor that blows air from the freezing compartment to cool the refrigeration. You might get lucky and find that the fan blades are just frozen up and the motor is not burned up as a result. (Hopefully) Then all you have to do is plug it back in and test to see if the small fan blades rpm.
Motors are available at the Sears Parts Store or on line. If the freezer is on the bottom it's easer to work on.
In any case, in the future you will want to defrost your freezer a 3 - 4 times per year to prevent this.
Cheers,
TF

Side by side fan in back doesn't

A temporary solution for this, is to use a fan to blow some air to the back of the unit. Looks like -as you already figured- the condenser fan is broken. If your fridge starts cooling with the external fan, you may have keep it working on this way until it is fixed.

If you had previous service in your appliance, perhaps the tech guy forgot to plug the fan connecto to the power.

Food in freezer is thawing, compressor very hot to the touch

It sounds like the motor to the circulating fan is wearing out . This fan is hard to diagnose as it will spin the blade , but as you said it will not spin fast enough to circulate air thru the freezer and refrigerator. The motor is DC non brush type. It will cost a minimum of $300.00 to repair/replace this fan assembly, but it is worth that compared to replacing the refrigerator
