Welcome to Fixya

A 10Gigs HD will usually run for the 30 mins or less to restore the system. This completely depends on the capacity of the HD you have there. The bigger the HDD, the longer it is going to take.

Thank you for using Fixya!

If you did the full format it should only take about 4 hours. It sounds like it froze during the restore unfortunately. Is it showing any signs of progressing?
If it is under warranty, you may need to take it back to the retailer you purchased it from or contact Sony: http://goo.gl/VkHgb (Sony processes out of warranty repairs as well)
You ultimately may need to try powering it off and seeing if it will still work. Doing this can cause software damage though:
"Do not turn off the PS3™ system during this operation. If the operation is cancelled before completion, the system software may become damaged, and the system may require servicing or exchange."

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/restoreps3.html
Hope this helps.

Ps3 stuck in restoring default settings.

To fix this you can go into safe mode and do a couple things.
With the system switched off in the back, switch it back on and with the red light on, hold the power button until you hear one beep, then when you hear another beep let it go. It will now turn back off. Now holf the power button again , you will hear 1 beep, and then 2 quick beeps, then let it go. If done correctly, you will be in Safe Mode with 6 options (on some other models you will hear one beep, then another beep, then one more, that's when you release the button. Instead of 1 then the 2 beeps in quick succession).

Now that you are in Safe Mode select option 3 'Restore File System'. This will fix any hard drive a anomaly's.

Then try restoring it again. But just to let you know 'Restoring Default Settings' just is a fix for the XMB Menu screen (The Sony Menu screen when your PS3 turns on).
If that does not work try Option 5:
Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data will be lost by performing this step.
This will reformat the hard drive on the PLAYSTATION 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB.
(I would try Option 5 from the beginning)

So to sum up how to get into Safe mode 'Direction-wise' from Sony:

1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."

But like I said, it varies from system to system on the beeps.

If none of this help you have 2 more possible options: Do a restore from a previos Backup and Do a Complete System Restore from that or Replace the hard Drive if that does not work. If your down to these last options it would seem to be a Hard Drive issue.

BTW, I wouldn't worry about your system being "messed up for good". The system has its own Flash Memory it restores from that reall y never corrupts. The only reason that would happen if you stopped in the middle of a firmware option or system downgrade.

Good Luck Buddy.

My husbands ps3 just stopped working last night while he was downloading something and was online. When he turns it back on it tells him the it has to rebuild the database. All well and dandy but then it...

This is what the PlayStation Forum says:
1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option)

go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies

check the disc if it has fingerprints or scratches if it does then thats your problem

if you have the 60GB sos mate they have alot of problems

or maybe try this put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it then switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it then put it back on then the fan test should be working this may cool it down

it may be overheating
if this problem still continues go out and buy a inter cooler from a shop

if it STILL CARRIES ON phone up sony

My playstation will not work, when i turn it on it says.. cannot start.. the correct hard disk was not found... was working fine last night.

Hello,

You can also try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as
well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with
your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.
Take care.

You can restore your system by following these steps :

1. Goto Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore.

2. System Restore window will appear. Click on Next.

3. A list of all available Restore Points will be displayed.

4. Select the Restore Point of your choice, and click Next.

5. Now, confirm the Restore operation by clicking on Restore / OK / Finish.

6. The System Restore process will take about 15-30 minutes.

7. Don't try to cancel or stop the process by pressing any key!

8. Don't turn off the system till the restore is done!

9. When the System Restore will be completed, a restore successful message will appear!

please rate this advice if it helps....tc! :)

You might try unplugging the power cord for 5 minutes, then restore power again. Try the machine again--if still has problems (beat son severely), you may have to replace the control unit.

Ps3 freezes at startup screen/ green red dots/lines,

Turn off the PS3 with the switch on the back, then turn back on. wait till the light is solid red then hold your finger on the start button for abount 10 seconds until you hear it beep twice.

It will then ask you to connect a controller via the usb cable and press the PS button. Once you do this it will bring up the reset menu.

Unfortunately the only way I found that solves this is a full system restore that wipes the hard drive completely.

You do however retain and data saved online such as COD stats etc and playstation store purchases with your PSN.

Hope this helps??

Have you tried updating to version 2.2? (It was just released last night). Is this still under warranty? If so, you may need to consider a hardware exchange.
