Do a search for 'battery mx6422' on http://www.ebay.com

Somebody will have one, either "new" or "used", for sale.

I have a broken hinge on my GATEWAY MX6422 which seems to have broken off the main lower casing...Is this a lost cause, or canit be repaired?

Get a good epoxy glue, if you follow the instructions to the letter it will be like it never happened - of course you will need to dismantle the laptop for easy access and you must have all the broken parts.

My gateway M-7031U stops charging at 30%

Unfortunately your battery is probably shot. First though, try to run the battery down until the laptop dies. Now with the discharged battery, and the laptop powered off, plug it in and leave it off for a few hours. Power the laptop back on and check the charge level. Still at 30%? Then the battery is very likely just bad. Unfortunately, the cells in the battery just simply die for a number of reasons, and capacity is lost. This is why most manufactures will only warranty a battery for 1 year.

Take the battery out and write down the model number and the "MAh" or "Ah" number. The MAh number represents the capacity of the battery. The higher this number, the generally longer the laptop runs on battery. Go to http://gateway.shopbysystem.com/gateway-m-7301u-notebook-accessories.html and verify that this is your laptop model. This is a Gateway authorized reseller. Looks like they want $90 for a small battery. Take your battery model number and go to Amazon and look up the battery there. Make sure it's MAh number matches or exceeds what is on your battery. Usually you can get a replacement battery from Amazon for about $20 less than Gateway.

CMOS BATTERY

Gateway 450ROG CMOS BatterySmall internal battery that maintains calendar and clock settings.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not the battery that powers your laptop; it only maintains certain internal settings. If you need a main battery, please refer to the page on our web site for your laptop model.

CMOS batteries are located on the motherboard; if you are not comfortable with the inner workings of your laptop, you may want to consider having the battery installed by a qualified technician.
