Ok, you can remove the screws can take the cover off of your computer. Then, if you have the necessary test equipment and understand computers you can test the different components like the power supply, hard drive, memory, motherboard, processor etc., and replace what ever it is that has failed. Otherwise I strongly suggest that you have a PC Technician look at your computer and tell you what the problem is.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but cpmputers are just like other electo-mechanical devices (Televisions, Clocks, heaters etc.) in the respect that if you don't know how to go about repairing them, and/or you don't have the required tools and test equipment, you will probably do more damage than good and possibly injure yourself in the process.

Good luck...

You could bolt it to the front of an F16, try running CCCleaner or get a new processor and/or more RAM. All of these should speed it up,

Problem with BIOS password on a Dell OptiPlex GX240 ??? user forgot the system password

In order to clear the BIOS password, you can remove the coin-cell (CMOS Battery) from the motherboard for a few minutes. The BIOS settings will be reset to defaults and you will have to reset password etc.

Hope it helps!

Dell Optiplex GX240 performance problem and fan noise

The fans on Dell power supplies are rather noisy and prone to failure. Find out if the noisy fan is inside the case or inside the power supply. If your computer has become slow you should scan for viruses and spyware. If the scan does not improve things it may be time for an upgrade.

The GX240 only supports up to 1 gigabyte of RAM, you should have the maximum installed. I would not spend more than $50 upgrading this computer, you can find better used ones in the $100-$200 range.
