How do I know when to use the fuser wiper cavity cover or the oil fuser wiper or the wax fuser wiper on my Lexmark T642?

Baron, Thank You for your response. Unfortunately my customer has replaced whatever was in the fuser cavity with a style of wiper that I have seen in much older printers. It has dry, felt strip that contacts the fuser roller. This tends to accumulate hardened toner residue and eventually scores the fuser roller causing print defects. In the Lexmark 4061-XXX manual there is listed a Fuser Wiper Cavity Cover - 40X0120, an Oil Fuser Wiper (Black Housing) - 40X2665 and a Wax Fuser Wiper (Gray Housing) - 40X2666. Through a fair amount of Google-ing I read a Lexmark article stating that the Wax Wiper was to be used when duplexing vinyl labels ( I know. Who the heck would do that?) - but even though it's in the parts list I couldn't find the application for the Oil Wiper. I've seen the Fuser Wiper Cavity Cover used in some Lexmarks. It's a piece of hard plastic with no wick that shields the Fuser Wiper Cover Assy (outer cover) from the fuser heat. It has no contact with the fuser roller and therefore does not accumulate hardened toner buildup. I'm wondering if that is all that is needed for high volume printing on regular paper - but I can't find it written. I would really appreciate your opinion.

The T642 is a monochrome printer and as such does not have an Oil wiper. The only wiper that should be needed with this printer is the hard plastic one that ships with the printer. These wipers are permanent and are only replaced when you install a new fuser. Oil wipers are usually only used with color laser printers.

We have clients running 200K copies every six months through these printers and we only ever use the starndard insert that ships with the fusers. I also have had customers replace the hard insert with the old cloth wipers with the same tragic results. If the customer is printing on standard media I would stick to the standard insert.

I tried to replace the fuser wand, but some of the tabs broke off and now it won't stay.

You might need to replace the Fuser Wiper Cover Assembly. The part number for the said part is 40X0001. Please contact any Lexmark Authorized Service Provider or contact our Technical Support Hotline.

Service fuser error, what does that mean?

The Fuser is the part that melts the toner onto the page. It is located in the rear of the machine, the rear cover must be removed to expose it.

Most likley it is a contact issue, on the heater. A new fuser will be required, or if you are inclined, remove the fuser and clean the AC contacts on both sides. for a new fuser

I have a Lexmark T642. Where does the felt strip

The felt strips were not put in on the Newer T 630/T640 and up series as they were causing scoring on the fusers. They would act like sand paper and score it beyond use. There are no more which is a great thing.

The fuser wipe is located under the small fuser cover or it is also known as the fuser cover wick. Here is a video that shows how to install.

Wiper blade

When you say wiper blade, do you mean the one in the cartridge? There's also a cleaning wand in the top of the fuser.
