Question about Computers & Internet
Welcome to Fixya. If you hear a click noises on the drive it means that i needs to be replaced because the spindle inside the drive will be damaged. hence the clicking noise. If you will check Western Digital's Website they recommend to replace the drive if you hear a clicking sound.
Hard disk Spindle:
If you are so fortunate that the drive actually picks up and shows on your operating system, the first step will be to backup all the data on the "faulty" drive you would like to save.
Since this is a new drive you can replace it for free you can as the distributor to replace it or use the WD support website for RMA or replacement.
