Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

1 Answer

I bought this tiller off Craig's list. He was up front and told me he had use starting fluid to get it started but that it ran after that. I brought it home started it (via starting fluid) went to the back yard and started tilling. After 15 minutes it just died. I was able to restart it imediately, but now it only runs for a few minutes and dies.

Your carburetor needs cleaning &,or otherwise before this, try removing the "sediment-bowl" located under the carburetor, needs removal and checking for water and dirt in this bowl and possibly new gasoline in the gas tank, if contaminated with water/dirt after purging all lines after this

I bought a Troy built tiller. used once two years ago. then it has been sitting in a shed. It had old gas in it. I drained gas tank. I am getting a spark. when I pour gas in air breather, it starts, but...

I have had good luck using an engine starting fuel, sprayed into the air cleaner/intake. Any auto repair store will carry this product. CAUTION, HIGHLE FLAMMABLE!!!!!!! Many mechanics frown on using starting fluids, but I have a bad shoulder & that is what I do on the 3rd pull.

Bought tiller today, used it a little bit then a loud grinding noise started coming from transmission

We just bought the same one, it was delivered on March 3rd, we ran it March 4th and had the same grinding. I called Husqvarna and they said it sounds like a faulty gear box. They said it is rare, but we need to take it to a Husqvarna service center. If they can't fix it they will send us a new one.

Runs like the devil, but only when I get a chance after "many" pulls on the starter handle, some times she/he just refuses, even after using ample starter fluid. Should I change the plug...

compression ratio is bad. when you try and start the engine it warms up and the machine
gets tighter and the compession goes up then the engine starts ... you ran it on gas without oil and
rings are starting to go out... buy a new one...

The engine doesn't start. I didn't use it for several years. It started and ran well for about an hour; when I shut it off, I could not restart. I have tried the obvious...new plug, putting started

You need to give the carburetor a good cleaning, as well as the air filter. Chances are the carb. will need a new carb. kit since it has been years since you last used it. If you need tips on how to clean the carb., just let me know.

Trouble starting old Mantis tiller 9012 - don't have a manuel -

Mantis has the owners manuals in pdf format available for download on its website. The tillers are here (I hope the link to the tiller group works...if not, just go to the main site and look for "owners manuals" link.

Also, you can call a number and get a representative who usually can help at the numbers listed there, find authorized service people if its not something you can do yourself, order parts and find detailed schematics in the owners manuals. My dog actually ate mine. LOL. But they are free, the owners manuals, unlike other places that charge you for them like they were a "part".
