Hi,

The notebook switches off because the battery has not been properly replenished/recharged. probable problem may be with the battery itself, the AC adapter/charger or the plug/jack.

Common causes of similar problems are a loose connection or a cold solder on the DC jack at the end of the laptop. In some instances, it could be the actual charger/AC adapter that may be at fault. This however could be verified with the use of a voltmeter measuring the DC voltage at the output plug. As to the DC jack, it would be more of a concern opening the laptop and exposing the underneath of the motherboard (where the solder are) rather than the actual repair which is soldering. Incidentally, there are cases where the terminals/pins of the DC jack might have been cut off hence a replacement may be required. Perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Is it overheating? Is the fan and vents clean and allowing sufficent air flow? Was it left unattended and shut down? If so change Power settings to High Performance, change Sleep to Never, Change Hibernate to never. I don't know your OS to give detailed info.

Asus u52 shut down unexpectedly

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

>> The fan is working. It gets really hot at times

... and so it shuts itself down, to prevent _permanent_ damage.

Either some programs are always running, and using the CPU at 100% and causing the CPU to run "hot", or there is a lot of sand and/or dust inside the computer, insulating the parts that most need the cooling.

Take your computer to a professional, and have it cleaned-out, with a bottle of compressed air.
Then, look for unnecessary programs (BitTorrent, LimeWire, computer-viruses) that are consuming the CPU's resources.

Turning off

Perform power drain ( remove all accesories including the battery and the power adapter) press the power button for 1 minute.

Connect the power adapter only then turn on the computer - try using for more than 1 hour. If the computer does not shut down then the issue is the battery.

Run anti virus software.

If problem still persist it is a posible hardware issue. If you are still in warranty you can call sony and they can help you fix the issue for free.

Overheating and shutting down

Re-load it. OR Take it apart and clean it. Dust is clogging the heatsink by the processor. AMD OR PENTIUM?

TRY RUNNING SPYBOT S&D and ADAWARE 2007 to remove spyware (Change to the highest that you can. SPYBOT S&D can shut down things in start-up in Advanced mode. Download THE FREE Norton from the Google package and let it run.

Problem with Toshiba Laptop A215-S7437

I bought a Toshiba 215 on Jan. 11th. After about 2 weeks of having it, it started doing the same exact thing. I took it back on Feb. 8th to Best Buy. The Geek Squad had it for a few days and said my optical drive was bad and that I could replace it because it had been less than 30 days. I've had my laptop now for 4 days and the thing just shut off AGAIN!!!! I seriously think this is definately a Toshiba Laptop problem as I've been reading tonight and have found many people with this same problem!

Shut down suddenly

Do you get any error-beeps of any kind? Like the battery is going empty? Or does it just go off suddenly? If the first is the case, your power connector in the computer or perhaps the powersupply could be broken. It could sound like your battery doesn't get charged and your computer isn't getting power. Then it will shut down. See if the power/charge indicator is on when connected to the power grid.

If it blacks out suddenly it's probably a more severe problem, but you might try to reinstall the OS (I'm guessing windows), but only as a last resort.
