IPhone 3G Troubleshoot

Having problems with iPhone 3G docking devices, many devices don't recognize it.

I also have quite a few coverage & reception problems, both of them are very low.

Are these common problems?

Thanks.

Unless the dock is made for the 3g version of the phone rather than the '2g' version it may not work and even if it recognises the phone will not 'charge' the battery this is due to the pins that received the 12 volts of many docks being disconected in the new 3g phone so you have to charge via a usb which uses other pins for this purpose

Iphone does not charging

Try performing a hard reset: Hold the sleep/wake button(power button) and the Home Button for 10-15 seconds, when you see an Apple appear let got and let the device boot up. If it still does not charge try testing the cable, the wall charger, and also plug it into a computer with iTunes to see if it is recognized to test the phone's dock. If the device is recognized try backing up and performing a restore AS NEW, NOT FROM A BACKUP. If the device is not recognized, go to apple.com/support and type TS1538 into the search field at the top right. This will bring you to the troubleshooting article that Apple uses themselves. If all else fails contact your carrier, reseller, or Apple if applicable. Good luck.

My G3 phone is flashing the apple symbol while powering up but isn't powering up.

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you.

What you can do, in order to resolve this issue, is start by resetting your iPhone 3G.
(Note: this does not remove any settings, data or media you have installed in your device)
• To perform a hard reset, press and hold your Sleep and Home Menu buttons for approximately 10 seconds.
• Once your screen goes black, release both keys. (If you see a white Apple logo before you release the keys you have held the keys to long and will need to start the reset process once again)
• The next screens you should see after the black screen, is the Apple logo screen followed by the main screen.

• This hard reset process should help bring your iPhone 3G back to normal functionality.

It would also be advisable to connect your iPhone 3G via its docking cable and provided wall socket adapter into a working wall socket in order to try and charge it.

If your iPhone 3G still does not charge, try connecting it with the docking cable to your computer or laptop to observe if it will take a charge then.

Should this process also not affect the way the iPhone charges, then you should look into using or purchasing another iPhone docking cable, as the cable itself may not be functional and needs to be replaced.

Docking cables for iPhones are fairly inexpensive (Under $20) and can be found in most electronics/computer stores that carry Apple products and accessories.

Finally, if a replacement docking cable does not help the iPhone 3G charge, this may be a hardware issue and you would be advised to take the iPhone 3G in to your local Apple retail store or Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area.

Iphone 3g stuck in "recovery mode" (black screen

To reset your iPhone settings,

picexporterror From the home screen, Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

Still having problems?
Try deleting all the existing settings.

Note: The step given below will delete all the data on your iPhone. It will also give a reset to your settings.
From the home screen, Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Contents and Settings.

Or:

If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond

  1. Press and hold the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the application you were using quits.
  2. If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for 10 seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
  3. If that doesn't work, reset iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Let me know if this helps or not, there are other resets available :

If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

When i put my IPhone 3G on dock it said that this accesory wasnt made for IPhone

This means your dock is not compatible with the iPhone 3G, or slightly compatible. I've had this problem with an FM transmitter in my car, I can use it to transmit my tunes to whatever station but I cannot use the charge features of the FM transmitter. Consult your manual for the dock about compatibility.

Washed my iphone a few weeks ago, finally turned it on and everything works great except the dock, can't sync with computer or charge from the wall. I put it on my friends dock and it says charging is not...

Well Im sorry to say, your phone is ruined. By washing it you ensured the entire device was soaked.
The components are not water proof. If you even tried to charge or turn the phone off while anything was still wet inside, you would have shorted it out as well.

You will more than likely have to get a new one, If you had phone insurance that would cover it I just would not tell them you washed it.

Im sorry about your mishap, I wish you the best of luck.Thank you for stopping by Fixya!

IPhone 3g Connection Problems

AT&T doesn't have good 3G service. Often you may find that you do not have 3G reception, and the phone switches to EDGE. This is not a problem with the iPhone. I live in a metropolitan area, so I do not experience problems, since 3G coverage is good. However, when i travel around, often i go to EDGE as well. Like i said this is a problem with the network and not your phone.

You'll probably need a charging adapter like the Scosche Passport, avaiable via the Apple Store.
