Blow the lens make shure it is not dirty and clean the disk tray with a damp towl

there ia som problem with the disk reader ..u first check whether thedisk is spinning after u put the cd if it doesnt the problem is with the disk reader..if disk is spinning then the problem is with the settings i guess...u try this site which hav all necessary in formation for u...

Check if your Playstation is compatible with the disks you use. check for you playstation if its PAL/NTSC and also check the disk PAL version runs with PAL discs vice versa

Have you tried a lens cleaner kit?
This is the CD-ROM with a small brush on it to clean your laser lens head.
This problem has happened to me in the past and this solved the problem.
It is a common problem for any lens reading console.

My PS2 always does that now. Just make sure it's reading the disc in the System Browser, and it'll play fine.

I'm also having this problem as well, it has to do with the OS and it is corrupted. It seems like the "Game mode" has been corrupted preventing us from playing games on the hard drive or reading games.

Youll have to replace the laser unit, try your games on an other device first to check.

Is yours an original Playstation or a Slim?

Likely your lens is just dirty. Ars put up a great tutorial for this repair (I advise you not to play with the lens-adjustment section unless a mere cleaning doesn't work) here:

If it's a Slim, skip the "opening" stuff and just follow the instructions for cleaning the lens, it's already exposed when you open the top of the unit.
