Sony integrated remote commander RM-VLZ620 sold at best buy

  • jcfo Apr 02, 2011

I have tried all the codes you sent andalso 00650, 01576 from the yamaha site and they will not turn on the amp. Using the automatic search mode of the sony remote it will find a code to turn off the amp, but it will not turn on the amp or turn it off in the normal control mode.

I have a surround sound system that uses a Yahama RX-V659 AV receiver and am trying to get a sony Rm-VLZ remote programed to control the AV receiver. THe Yamaha remote works but I have 4 remotes to control the system wont to have only 1. I have tried all the codes but none will turn on the receiver. How do I program the sony remote? Nothing seems to work. The search mode will turn off the receiver so it found a code but it will not turn on or off the receiver in th enormak mode.

I am not happy. My problem was not solved. I was told that it doesn't work I knew that before i asked for help. There is no place where I can find to complane. What about my money back guarenty.

  • jcfo Apr 12, 2011

Do you actually believe that I havent tried to learn the codes with the device? What kind of idiot do you think i am? Give me a answer that I havent tried. I would not have cotacted you if I hadn't tried the obvious.

  • jcfo Apr 12, 2011

The first thing I tried was to do a code search. Then I tried to the learn mode. I have been able to work around the problem to get most things working. Your suggestions were the most helpful so far. I can live with it now. The end result was to use different settings to acheive the fuinctions needed. Not neat but usable. Consider this problem resolved. jcfo

Hello jcfo,

I'm sorry that you're unhappy with the answers you've received so far, but they are correct. Not all remotes have pre-programmed codes which will work with all devices. There are simply too many devices for one remote to have codes for them all. That's the bad news . . .

The good news is, although this remote has no code for your receiver, it is what's commonly called a 'learning' remote. This means you can use the remote supplied with the Yamaha receiver to teach the infra-red signals for the Yamaha receiver to the Sony remote.

The instructions for programming the Sony remote using the original Yamaha remote is lengthy (too much to write here), but all of the details are contained in the user manual for the RM-VLZ620. If you don't have the manual, you can download it from here:

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/RMVLZ620.pdf

Instructions for using the learning feature start on page 20. The process is a little time-consuming, so patience is required. If you are unable to open the file, you will need to download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader on your PC: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

I hope this resolves your problem. Unfortunately there aren't always instant shortcuts (i.e. a code), however this remote will work with your Yamaha receiver, but getting it to do so is going to take a little bit of work on your part.

If you need assistance with the teaching/learning feature, please let me know.

Regards,
BElectric

The remote does not learn codes - it learns infra-red flash patterns from the original remote for specific commands. Each command, (i.e. key) has to be programmed individually. The learning feature can be programmed to replicate any command from any remote.

I've programmed numerous learning remotes and have never had a problem with them failing to learn a command. I can only advise you to re-read the instructions for the learning feature and try again.

I don't think you're an idiot and I understand your frustration, but nowhere in your comments have you stated that you've tried the learning feature. Neither myself or any of the other experts here are psychic. Your questions have been answered at every stage based on the information you have provided to us.

Additionally, your comments suggest you have confused the code search with the learning feature.

    They are entirely different things.

Well, I'm please to have been of some assistance to you at least. Nobody was ever trying not to help you, but we can only work with the equipment you have. You could try an endless number of universal remotes and still find that none of them will work all of your devices - or all of them perfectly. Unfortunately, this is the nature of universal remotes.

Unless you need further assistance, I would appreciate it if you could accept this answer and close this request.

    Thanks,

Hi jcfo,
I don't know if you've already tried this LINK to program your Yamaha Reciever. I've read your comment and I knew you've already done you're best and other sources to have an access to your unit. If you've already tried the link I've provided and yet the remote does not work perfectly, this is an indication that your Yamaha model isn't compatible to Sony RM-VLZ620. Note that every universal remote has a limited compatible brand/model in its ROM, it means that other unit will work fine(compatible) but other will not.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

How to troubleshoot remote controll

Most Yamaha receivers have a remote ID so if you have more than one Yamaha you can control one without bothering the other, do you still have your owners manual? If not have you tried the people at Yamaha they are very helpful with a problem like this but for an example I have my Remote ID set at ID1 because I do have 2 Yamaha receivers the RX-V1300 and the RX-A3020, see if you can find the section in your manual that talks about remote IDs and let me know if that fixes the problem and you can always goto http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/ but that is the site for the United States they do have sites for many countries at http://www.yamaha.com/

How do i program for sony cd player

I also have a Sony CD player (CDP-XE330) and I have tried almost every code from the yamaha manual, but without success.
The only codes that yamaha remote supports, are the codes from the list in the yamaha manual. If none works, you are out of luck and the only solution is using the original sony remote (if you have one) or universal remote.

I have recently purchased Logitech Harmony 525 on eBay and now I control all my 7 devices with it without any issues. It is programmed via USB and Logitech has codes for almost 250.000 devices.

Need yamaha codes to program into uverse tv ir remote

(I have the RX-V659). Because the Yamaha remote has TWO SEPARATE buttons - power ON and power OFF (standby). This problem can't be fixed. There's a code to choose power ON and another code for power OFF. But one button can't be two buttons. Bad engineering\ design by Yamaha in my opinion
