Question about Bosch Microwave Ovens

Open Question

Hi, Bosch M/wave HMT 845KGB/01 (FD8007). Every thing works except the important bit, it doesn't heat up anything? Any ideas? Also. if I need to take it out of the fitting how do you remove the surround fitting kit? Thanks. Pete.

I would suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or defective magnetron, in that order.

The diode is a pretty easy fix, and the magnetron is more involved, but not too bad for a DIYer.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Thereshould also be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind thecontrol panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which isvery helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html (continuity can be good even though it is bad!)

If you have to replace the magnetron, you'll need to take the oven down from the wall.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

SOURCE: Hi there, I have a

This indicates one of three things, there is a short in the magnetron, or high voltage diode , or the high voltage capacitor. Now! the other possible situation is the door switch has become defective and this would apply when you first plug in the microwave oven, either way it needs to be checked and depending on parts and labor the cost could come close to a replacement.

SOURCE: Our G E XL1800 micro wave doesn't heat

Since you didn't mention the model number, I have to be kind of general.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

If it's quieter than usual (like the fan is not coming on) then it's likely a bad door switch or door switch mount or possibly a bad relay or connection no the control board, which we repair.

If it's louder than usual, that's usually a problem in one of the high voltage parts.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Michelle,
You may have killed the magnetron but you may not have either. If you can take that cover plate off, you may find that there is grease build up behind it and that needs to be cleaned off. Grease can build up there without you even realizing it and after a while it can catch fire from the heat created by the magnetron. You should never put any empty plate or container in a microwave because the magnetron needs to have something for the waves to hit. Hope this helps.

this is a internal protection mechanism which turns the device off incase a problem is detected. you will have to take it to a tech for a inspection as we can't really do that over the internet.

There are no spares listed for the power button. You may want to see if it came loose as opposed to broke. That means take it apart. However, that unit is not made anymore.

If for some reason you don't still have the installation instructions, their support site should allow you to either download or order a set.
If you can't find their site, try the dealer from whom you purchased the oven.

The microwave turns off after about 30 seconds. It does not seem to heat at all for the 30 seconds that it is on. Electricity stays on as you can still see the time.

Hi mstgermai267,
I have the same problem on myBosch microswave HMT 9656/GB, which stops after 22 seconds and does not heat. Did you ever get to the bottom of your problem, which seems to have cropped up with a number of Bosch microwave oven owners? There is a suggestion that there is some sort of internal fuse that may have blown.

Brendan

Q - The microwave display counts down and the inside light is on,  but nothing is heating and the fan is not running.
A - This most commonly is a bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.
