Confirm that engine will rotate.
Confirm voltage at battery during crank attempt minimum 9 volts at crank, 12 volts at rest.
Confirm greater than 9 volts at starter when cranking.

There are two yellow wires and 1 red wire on a voltage regulator on a Briggs and Stratton 22hp. The the mower flooded recently.

the two yellows go under the flywheel to the stator , they are a/c current that is converted to 13.8 volts D/C in the voltage regulator .I would not think it being under water would hurt the stator or regulator . Maybe the mud under the flywheel might grind things.

Model 170 with a Kawasaki 14 hp engine. Why doesn't anything happen when I turn the key?

This is a 12 volt system and the battery should have 12 1/2 volts. Motor running the voltage should be above 13 volts and below 14.5 volts. You will need a battery charge or jump start.

I have a 2008 la 115 john deere riding mower. It won't start in less I put a large screwdriver on the solenoid. the fuse looks good as well. I replaced the ignition switch and solenoid too.

When you try to turn over engine with key it turns over slowly and stops? It acts like starters not working properly? If this sounds like it and it's a single cylinder Briggs and Stratton engine ohv's your valve specs are off they need to be checked and adjusted every 200 hrs. If you need further assistance let me know. Wadembly@aol.com or call 831-578-4034 pacific standard time ( California)

1979 CB300 or B300? It's been many years so I really don't remember but, it sounds like the voltage regulator has stopped working. Like I said, I can't remember but the voltage regulator is either built into the alternator or it's mounted on either the fender near the battery or on the firewall. This is a simplified schematic but you should understand. Also once you find the voltage regulator see if you can remove the cover and clean the contacts before you go and buy a new one. Hope this helps.

I have a 3010 John Deere +24 volt pos ground how do I change from 24 volt gererator to a 24 volt altenator

The 3010 24v JD system is not a true 24v system. It is a balanced split 12v system, with one positive ground battery and one negative ground battery. The only 24 volt accessory is the starter, where the batteries meet in a series to provide 24 volts for starting. All other accessories are 12v, half powered by the positive ground battery and half powered by the negative battery. The generator charges one battery in one direction and the other battery in the reverse direction. Therefore a 24v alternator is not easily adapted to this system.
The usual solution is to change to a 12v system with an alternator, changing the starter to 12v and changing the polarity of the positive ground battery to negative ground.
The cost of a 12v starter and alternator is far less than the cost of a 24v alternator, plus the added benefit of using 12v lights and other accessories.
JD switched to this 12v type of system with alternator during the 20 series production, but used two 6v batteries in a series due to the larger cranking amp rating of the 6v batteries occupying the same physical space.

John Deere Lawn Tractor LX176. Battery discharge

Locate voltage regulator above battery to the left as you sit on machine, its behind frame that supports steering wheel.Once you have found it use a light to shine on harness and follow the brown wire that leads into regulator. The plastic around that wire should not be burnt or showing any other color. The LX series machines had a problem with brown wire coming loose and causing the charging light to stay on.Remove plug from reg and use small screwdriver to clean out wire and work it a little so it makes good contact.
