PTG-53XN error code p1. And hot water turns off.

Before calling service technician, open following link for Rheem troubleshoot resources including Rheem chat:

Error codes are considered start point for troubleshooting, and can sometimes mislead.
Error P1 is 'not enough water to operate the unit:'
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Rheem-Error-code-P1.pdf

This problem can be caused by plumbing problems such as crossover, or clogged water lines, or dirty water filter, or clogged water softener, or temperature of unit set too high. Or combination of these problems.
Remember if temperature is set very high, then more cold water is used at the faucet. This means less hot water is drawn through the tankless water heater, so the flow rate may drop below activation threshold.

Have a p1 flashing on the remote control and no hot water. I have tried shutting the water and power off and still a p1 flashing on the control unit.

P1 is reportedly defective check valve that can cause water flow to decrease, and tankless not heat water smoothly. But can also be other causes, or combination of causes. Call service technician, contact Rheem, or replace check valve and see if problem solves. Then add a comment with solution so others can benefit from your experience.

Why get a P1 error code on my Rheem tankless RTG-64xp?

1) I cannot find Rheem error code P1
http://www.palomatankless.com/owners/homeowner+trouble.lasso
http://www.palomastore.com/paloma_error_codes.html

2) BOSCH does not show P1 either:
http://www.boschhotwater.com/HelpfulResources/TechnicalSupport/BoschAquaStarModels/2400ESTechSupport/Troubleshooting/tabid/1295/Default.aspx

3) Best I could find is that folks with P1 error code report tankless fires for short period, and then turns off.
This implies air, fuel or vent problem, and can be internal, external or combination.

4) P1 appears frequently on control board descriptors, which might imply the error is control board malfunction.

5) Call Rheem 1-800-432-8373, and then add a comment to this thread and let folks know what you discover.

6) I will also call Rheem when time permits, and post what I discover.

Nothing works on control panel except control locked sensor light. The buttons were working fine then I went to add more drying time and the buttons do not light up or work.

From the details of your symptom you're indicating a possible intermittent loose connection between the user interface (touch panel) and the machine control board or the voltage supply to machine control board at P1 connector.

Disconnect the power cord from the power source.

  • Disconnect P3 and P4 connectors from the machine control board and then reconnect them.
  • Disconnect P1 connector and then reinstall the P1 connector and then recheck operation.

If the wires are good then you will need to replace the control board on your unit.
Here is a link to the part.

LF cde

HI. This is a Long fill condition. LF flashes when the water level does not change for a period of time after the valves are turned on OR water has disengaged the basket, but the Machine/motor control does not detect a water level change.

Check the following:

1.Is The water supply connected and turned on?

2.Are the hose screens plugged?(pull the fill hoses, to check the screens on the inlet valve)

3.Is water entering the tub? If so check pressure hose connection to machine/motor control.

If everything above checks out ok, i would advise to use the procedure below to test the electrical connections to the valves, and the valves themselves.

1. Check the relays and electrical connections to the valves by performing the steps under Diagnostic: Manual, then Manual: Water Valves. Each step in the test activates a group of valves. The following steps assumes one (or more) valve(s) failed to turn on.
2. For the valve(s) in question check the individual solenoid valves: Unplug washer or disconnect power. Disconnect connector P1 and P2 from the machine/motor control. Check harness connection to solenoid valves.
3. Check resistance of valve coils at contacts P1 and P2.
If resistance readings are tens of ohms outside of range, replace the entire log valve assembly. If resistance readings are within range, replace the machine/motor control assembly.
4. Reconnect connectors P1 and P2 to the machine/motor control.

NOTE:-All the resistance levels for the log vale will be noted in your units user manual

Leak out of the from of the ice machine - flashing p1

P1 means a problem with your drain. Most of the time its a kink in the line. Double check your drain line or it could even be a bad drain pump.
