I just bought a used 550 and the belt seems to slip when I am on it and if I stop walking the belt stops. I have tightened it tighter than recommended with no results. The ground pin has also been removed from the power cord is this an operational problem or just safety?

Hi.
first. do not over tighten the belt. it will put strain on the bearings and may stretch the belt.
tighten as recommended.
treadmills need periodic lubricating between the belt and the metal baseplate under it where you walk. without lubrication, there is too much friction and the belt will not move freely.
get a can of belt lubricant available for treadmills. most stores that sell treadmills should be able to supply this, or tell you where you can get it. use the lubricant as described on the tin. this should cure the problem, unless the belt itself has stretched in which case the belt may need replacing.

a more serious issue is the removal of the ground pin. this should NOT have been done.
treadmills have a nylon belt, on a metal frame and without proper grounding could result in large amounts of static electricity being generated. this can be a hazard for yourself, and could damage the electronic control systems. if the machine is properly serviced and lubricated, static electricity should be kept to a minimum, but this type of machine should ALWAYS be earthed for safety.

the ground pin should be replaced as soon as possible for your continued safety.

if you would like instructions on changing the plug on the power cord, please ask, but unless you are confident in changing these plugs i would recommend that you leave this to a competent electrician

If the walking belt slips when you are on the machine that means the belt is loose. You will need to tighten the belt. To do this go to the link below page 23 will tell you how.

Hello
The ground pin should always be connected, because it is meant for safety. It is connected to the metal body of the threadmill to prevent electrc leak voltage, if any, from its motor to be earthed, otherwise can cause an electric shock. It should always be connected. There will bo no operational problem with it connected, and that lead does not have any connection to the circuit inside it all.

If the walking belt is off-center, remove the key and

UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. If the walking belt

has shifted to the left, use the hex key to turn the

left rear roller bolt clockwise 1/2 of a turn; if the walking

belt has shifted to the right, turn the left rear

roller bolt counterclockwise 1/2 of a turn. Be careful

not to overtighten the walking belt. Plug in the power

cord, insert the key, and run the treadmill for a few
minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is centered.

If the walking belt slips when walked on, first remove

the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using

the hex key, turn both rear roller bolts clockwise, 1/4

of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened,

you should be able to lift each edge of the walking

belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform. Be careful

to keep the walking belt centered. Then, plug in the

power cord, insert the key, and carefully walk on the

treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking
belt is properly tightened.
OK.

B) Walking Belt/Motor Belt too Tight:

If you have adjusted the walking belt or motor belt recently, check for this problem. When the belts start slipping, some people just crank

down the belts and on treadmills, tighter is not necessarily better. The tighter the belts, the more the drive system has to work to keep

everything moving. You should be able to lift the walking belt (with the treadmill unplugged) in the center of the treadmill about 3" without

straining. Tighter belts should be loosen but make sure you don't create a dangerous slipping situation by loosening.

The motor belt (with the treadmill unplugged) should be able to be turned by hand to almost a 90 degree angle from its normal operating

position. Loosen the belt if too tight. Make sure to test for slipping

and if it does with the proper tension, replace the motor belt.

While using my Nordictrack a2550 this morning, the walking belt began to slip very badly. I checked the alignment and adjusted the tension of the belt as per the user's manual but the belt stills slip...

if it really is the walking belt that is slipping keep tightening the adjustment screws till the belt will not slip when you try to stop it ( set speed to about 3 and then with your foot try to stop belt from spinning - you should be able to make the motor and whole machine come to a stop ) make sure it is really walk belt spinning and it isnt the motor belt slipping. (if it is motor belt slipping when you try to do the stop the belt trick i just described you will see the walk belt and front roller stop but still hear the motor turning) once you get walk belt tight enough so it doesnt slip then you can worry about keeping the belt centered.

let me know if you need more help on this and let me know how the stop the belt test went

good luck!

Hi my belt is slipping. I have tightened it but it is still slipping. I am concerned that further tightening will result in a too high amp draw on the motor and cause a burn out. Does the deck needs to be...

Hello,

Does the belt stop while walking or running? Does it staop after it has run for a while? Does the motor seem to stop too? or can you hear it running like normal?

Let me know, It is most likley the pully on the front roller.

When i start running it isnt a steady flow of the belt there is jerks every few seconds making it very hard to run and almost is enough to make you fall what do you think the problem might be

It sounds like you either have a loose walk belt or a slipping front drive pully. The walk belt shoould be tightened so that you can pull up on the edge of the belt about 2 inches. If that is OK, pull the motor cover, start the treadmill and walk trying to stop the belt with you feet. Watch the drive belt this time (the small one going from the drive motor to the front drive roller), if this belt stops, you need to tighten motor, or replace if it is older/wornout. If the drive belt keeps turning fine, watch the front roller and see if the pully connected to the drive belt keeps turning while the roller connected to the walk belt stops, if so you need a new front drive roller.

Hope this helps

When i am running the belt seems to stop for a split second causing me to stumble and then goes normally

If the walking belt slips when walked on, first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the allen wrench, turn both rear roller bolts clockwise 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Then, plug in the power cord, insert the key, and walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.

When I step on the treadmill, the runner stops and

Unplug unit then remove motor shroud the walk on the belt normally and try to stall the belt to make it slip. Be careful during this test. If the problem is in the drive belt, either the drive belt will stop when stalled or the front roller will stop when stalled.
Find the set bolt(s) on the motor. This is typically run through only one side of the motor mount or may be on both sides but it does not run the full length of the mounting..
Look for a bolt that will tension the motor. If it has this bolt, it typically runs in the same direction parallel with the drive and walking belts. If your treadmill is not equipped with a bolt as described above, the drive belt must be tensioned by hand. While one person applied increased tension to the drive belt, the other person should tighten the motor set bolt(s) that are described in Step If your treadmill is equipped with this bolt (very few are) the repair will only require one person.
If the motor, drive belt, and front roller continue to turn when the walking belt is stalled, the problem is with the walking belt slipping on the front roller.
If the walking belt slips when walked on. Using the allen wrench, turn both rear roller bolts clockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Plug in the power cord, insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.

Belt stops/slips

Sometimes tightening the belt is not the problem> What I would be doing is to get on the machine a determine which of the belt is actually slipping. What happens if the drive belt is glazed slippage occur no matter what you do. With the running belt you may have to it limits of adjustment and the belt can be stretched that no matter how you adjust it it will slip!!

Belt slipping have tried to tighten, just bought used

When the belt slips, it can be 2 different places. The trick is to look at the front roller when the belt slips. If the front roller stops with the walking belt, then the drive belt (between the motor and front roller) is loose and can't be fixed by tightening the walking belt. If the drive belt is slipping, it needs to be tightened or replaced. I need the brand and model number to help you further.

Belt stops when i walk on it

with item going 2mph, stand on foot rails, hold on handles, with one foot try stopping walking belt-look at front roller while doing this-if walking belt slips around frt roller, its the walking belt loose. at each corner there is an adjustment, with proper allen wrench, turn CLOCK WISE one turn EQAULLY on each side!! Then recheck, keep doing this untill it quits slipping-Small moves is best don't crank.
Now on other hand if walking belt Stops with frt roller, its the MTR dr. belt under the hood, to tighten, with 2 9/16th wrenchs, I loosen mtr mount bolt, with one hand apply pressure to mtr, retighten, or have wife apply this pressure with her foot, but don't over tightn-u want to turn belt 1/4-1/2 inch on side. Also check walking lube under walking belt!!

Belt is slipping

This is caused by one of three problems. First and most likely, the walking belt is loose. To tighten the belt, start by locating the two bolts that adjust the rear roller (one on each side of the unit in the back). Run the unit at about 3 mph. Tighten the bolts a 1/4 turn at a time. Make sure that what you do to one side, you MUST do to the other side or the belt will get off center. After you tighten it 1/4 turn, check the belt to see if it is still slipping. If it is then tighten the belt 1/4 turn again. Continue until the belt does not slip, but do not tighten the bolts more than 2 full turns. If it takes more than 2 turns then something else is the problem. The second problem that it could be is the drive belt might be loose. To tighten the drive belt, start by removing the front cover. loosen the bolts around the motor then tighten the drive belt by tightening the motor adjuster bolt. Once the drive belt is tight, tighten the motor back down. The third problem that it could be is the walking belt could be worn and need to be replaced. Let me know if you have any questions.
