Question about Delfield Freezer 6151XLSR Stainless steel

1 Answer

Is it possible for a delfield freezer 6151 XL-S to trip a breaker every 2-3 hours if the TXV valve was faulty letting liquid get to compressor. This unit has had controller and relay start assembly replaced. Delfield said they have had specific problems with tripping breakers on this model. They said if the suction side is less than 15 degrees, try to adjust the TXV then if that doesn't work replace the compressor. My question is: Is it worth it to try and replace the TXv before replacing compressor? I have not once seen the amp draw on compressor go above 10 amps

I would look to see if it is tripping during the defrost cycle. One of the heater elements my be faulty. Never heard of a bad TXV causing a breaker tripping, but I guess it's possible. I would adjust the superheat so that it is about 6 to 8 degrees just prior to unit reaching temp and shutting off. I'd start there.

Help with charge

I would suggest charging about 2 oz below label then charge by pressures if it is a TXV. Cap tube is critical charge so i would as the manufacturer of Hot Shot. Not recommended to use hot shot on cap tube systems. My opinion only.

We have the Delfield XL 6000 freezer. We have been having problems with the breaker keep fliping off and causing to loose food. We have had Delfield technicians to come out on several occasion and they...

Ok ,
Does it trip all the time now,or only after running a while.?

If it trips right when you reset breaker with machine OFF, have the wiring checked for a dead short to ground up to the thermostat.

If it trips after running ,as it starts or intermittently there's a dead short to ground that could be any where.

You can simulate what is going on by doing this check.
Unplug machine.
Using an ohm meter, set to ohms, place a test lead on the ground prong(round one) .Place the other test lead to one of the remaining prongs. If there is any reading youv'e got a short. Try the other prong as well
However, if you get no reading there still could be an intermittent short .

Another thing to check. It might not be the machine at all.

Sometimes,if your wall recepticle is worn or old it can heat up causing circuit breaker trip.
Make sure there are no extention cords involved.
If you're on a 15 amp circuit ,you might want to upgrade to 20

Good hunting

Need run pressures

You have to give more info. What refrigerant, where is the unit located so ambient temps can be considered, is there a cap tube or txv.
http://www.delfield.com/docs/uploaded/del/manuals/DM6000XL.pdf
Try this web site from Delfield. It should be you manual. It says your unit has 404-A. Check it out and let me know if you need more info.

Delfield freezer 6151-S keeps tripping GFCI

Try it in a normal plug. Freezers and refridgerators just pull too much to be used on a GFCI. The more a GFCI is used the eaiser it trips.

Can I turn my Delfield freezer Mdl 6151-S into a cooler

It can be done but someone would have to do their homework. They have to know the BTU rating of the evap. Then match the compressor and expansion device to it for the intended temp range. In some cases, the compressor can be used in multiple temp ranges, so you could be lucky and just change the expansion device and possible the temp control, depending on which one you have. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

A Delfield Mdl 6151-S 2 door stainless freezer into a cooler? Change thermostat? It cost me $25 . Factory service says it's not practical. What is practical?

to do it right, you gotta get technical. Need to know the BTU rating of the evap coil. Then match the compressor/ condenser coil and the expansion device to the same BTU rating. Can prove to be somewhat expensive. Your unit probably has a 3/4 h.p. compressor. This is pretty big for a 2 door unit. Probably too big, but again, gotta get the technical on all that stuff.
