Powerdsine ups indicating inverter fault

How can a powerdsine ups indicating inverter fault be rectified.

    I have a ups powerware 9120 that shows DC BUS FAULT , I chaged the capacitor`s but when I turn on it , the fuse F1 10 A was damaged . there is a short circuit in the mainboard ups (output) but I donĀ“t know where is ?

    please help me

The inverter in the ups unit may be faulty not the rectifier.. Either way if you are not getting correct cycles for your area then the ups unit must not be used as the incorrect HZ will damage anything electronic

Batteries in the UPS typically last 3 to 5 years and it depends upon several factors. Including the number of times the unit must go on battery power and environmental conditions. There are usually several batteries in the UPS and while the battery voltage may show 13 volts, this may only be a float charge/voltage and a true indication of the battery voltage and condition requires the batteries to be tested under a load. If one battery is faulty in a set of batteries it will causes the whole battery system to fail and indicate a battery fault. A faulty charging circuit will not charge the batteries and will also cause a fault condition.

Lower powered and cheaper type UPS are switch over types, when the mains supply fails, the UPS switches over to the battery and inverter in milli-seconds which then supplies mains power to the computer and peripherals. A faulty inverter circuit and or flat batteries won’t deliver standby power when the mains supply fails.

NOTE the power waveform from these UPS is a pseudo sine wave (i.e. not a true sine wave).

The true UPS types are usually the higher KVA units (over 1500 VA) that supply continuous mains power. The mains power is connected to a charger which charges the batteries and the inverter draws power from these batteries and converts it to true sine wave mains power to the computer equipment, therefore there is no switch over time lag when the mains supply fails.

UPS SURTD5000XLIQ is being powered but indicating red Led fault , What may be the cause ?


it is cause by UPS internal fault, possibilities like faulty charging circuit, inverter, etc.. you can call APC and check if its still have warranty, APC will replace it right away :D

What is the sound? Is the device working normally? Are there any lights or indicators? Do they indicate a fault or error?

A UPS runs on standard 110-120 VAC power. It converts the input power to DC and charges internal batteries, then back to AC. Connected devices actually run on the conditioned 115-120 VAC output. The batteries serve as a short term backup power source.

The electronics in the UPS can produce hum or high pitched tones. The sound should not be annoying. If it is louder than connected equipment (computers) it may indicate a problem. Hum is usually 60 Hz harmonics and difficult to eliminate. This harmonic may be transferred to audio equipment such as speakers or radios. A high pitched tone can be related to the rectifiers for the convertor/invertor. If the tone is loud, it means the rectifiers are drawing a lot of current. This is usually related to bad batteries.

Measure the voltage on the output receptacles. It should be 115-120 VAC. Disconnect everything on the output receptacles. Unplug the UPS from it's power source. If the output power dies within 1 minute, the batteries need to be replaced.

Very complicated these items. I have not been able to repair even apparently simple faults, manufacturers such as emerson/leibert do not release cct diagrams, so very difficult to fix as there are many different sections (pfc,rectifier,charger,upconverter,bypass,inverter) of the circuit all interconnected with a micro processor monitoring and controllling the whole thing. You have to be really lucky to sort out any problem particulary one with blown components.

Inverter not on


if your inverter is not coming on it is possible the power transistors that do the switching are bad and they need replacement
