Hi again,

Dunno what happened but lost you on the Live Session/Chat.

In any case soon as you get the drive off, you would need a USB to 2.5IDE adapter to hook it up to the 2nd/desktop computer and it will be treated as a removable disk. If read, then simpy copy/paste all your files to the 2nd PC. If for some reason could not be read, then you would need a file recovery utility. You can do a Google for free ware but have had good results with GetDataBack. Thereafter, it would be a matter of clean fresh install using the borrowed XP CD installer and the use of your Windows key underneath the laptop.

Cheers.

please read that article

There is a way I have done in the past and its remove the old drive put a new one in install new operating system. and see if I can manage to get my info off the old drive once the new drive is completly installed.

and if that dosent work I put the old drive on Ice, well a ziplock bag then into the freezer. oddly enough its saved me more time then not. I manage to get all my data off the hard drive and then finally format the old drive then it works again most of the time.

im not too sure what to suggest I wouldnt do what I do. cause its not a actual method of troubleshooting this issue.

read the article and see what you think.

if you dont want to loose any info seriously pick up a 1 gig or 2gig hard drive from a computer shop for 5 bucks install the os and manage to get your data off. well whatever size you would figure you would need also ebay is a good chance too for cheaper hard drives.

Hello,

This is the start of a failing hard drive. If you can boot up and retrieve all your important data off the drive ASAP.
You can try running a check disk on the drive but 9 times out of 10 it means it is going to die.
To run checkdisk right click on the drive then go to properties and then advanced and the option is there.

If my answer helped you today please give four thumbs up as thanks!

Hello, While trying to boot up, I received the message, "disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del". The same message appears after I press ctrl+alt+del. What can I do to resolve the issue? Thank...

This is called a disk error which generally means your disk has failed. You need to get your data off it if it is not backed up. You will have to replace the disk.
A local computer shop might, just might, be able to install it into a second computer and read the data. The more you fuss with it the lower your chances of getting any data off it.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

You can try pressing f4 at startup screen and seeing if it gives you the advanced option to factory restore, which would be located on hard drive.

Or

You can call HP (compaq) and ask them to ship you the restore disks, I think they charge shipping only for this option.

I have a optilex 170l dell computer i replaced the hard disk and now i gives me a disk read error occured press ctrl+alt+del to restart

Press ctrl+alt+del to restart is just an instruction. Did you do it?
What happened? Was it read? Tell us more. Send your e-mail for
us to give you our feedback.
By the way, assuming that it did not work, Your hard disk must be
configured to your PC, by running a software driver for your new hard
disk. You can download it from the internet by running search " hard
disk driver". Just specify the brand.

I get a black screen that says a disk read error occured press ctrl alt del to restart

The problems is with your hard driver

First check the hard drive data cable and power cable are plug in well
Is that is ok

So you have to try to reformat the hard drive and reinstall a opertaing system (using a Operating system CD Or Boot able Disk)

IF it is not working you have to replace a new hard disk
