My cell phone got wet. I immediately dried it out and did the rice bit. When I use the charger, it works fine, but when I disconnect the phone from the charger, nothing happens. Can this phone be saved?

It might be the battery that's damaged.
I'd recommend taking the phone to your service provider and explain what happened.
Ask if you can try using the phone with a new battery. If the phone works, then you can purchase the battery.
If not, the phone might be too damaged and you'll need to get a new one.

There's a strange sounding possible solution. Fill a bowl with uncooked rice and put your cell phone in it and leave it there for 24 hours. The rice sucks up moisture. Your phone probably still has some water (or whatever the liquid was) and drying the phone out may solve the problem. It worked for me with a TV remote control. If you dropped it in something with sugar in it, this won't get the sugar out, but try it anyway. A little bit of rice is a lot cheaper than a cell phone. :)

How to dry a wet cell phone

If a cellphone ever gets wet usually its thought that the cell phone is dead but its not the case if you follow the bellow instruction in case your cell got wet:

Dry out a wet cell phone by taking out the battery and SIM card and placing all of the parts in a zip locked bag or any other plastic bag with uncooked rice for 24 to 48 hours. Avoid putting wet cell phones in the oven, as it may melt the plastic. Remember never turn your phone on before that time or if your phone is wet and its still on then remove the battery immediately that will save your phone.

Dry out a wet cell phone

So you dropped your blackberry in the pool...All is not lost...Hopefully.

1. Resist the urge to try and power it up, this is when damage can occur.
2. Immediately pull the battery our and dont ever think about hooking it to the wall/car charger.
3. Get a can of compressed air (dust off) and blow every nook and cranny until no water droplets can be seen. If its stuck in the screen do your best to get as much as you can. The next step will take care of the rest. Take off any covers and try to get it as dry as possible.
4. Put the phone in an airtight container filled with dry white rice (Uncle Bens Uncooked White is good enough).
5. Let the phone sit for a full day (24hr minimum). It is imperative to wait, and the longer you can resist the better of chance you may have. The more water logged the phone the more you should wait. If you open the container and it is at all damp, put in a new bowl of dry rice and wait another two days because it is water logged.
6. Pull the phone out of the rice and blow it all out with compressed air, dust is an enemy, but less lethal then the water.
7. Plug in the battery, but not the charger.
8. If all turns on then I'd still wait a day to put it on the charger just in case its a little damp (dont want the AC to short something).

I am on call and have dunked my blackberry 8330 more times than I care to remember this has saved it about 50% of the time.

What ever you do dont dunk it is rubbing alcohol or try and dry it with a hair dryer. Those methods can work on lesser electronics, but dissolve the fine circuitry on our cellphones.

Wet Cell Phone
Immediately remove the phone from the water, turn off the cell phone remove the battery and SIM card. When you have driedthe cell phone by putting in a warm sunny place for several days or in front ofa warm fan heater for several hours then reassemble the phone. Hopefully itwill work properly but if does not work then it is faulty and you need a newcell phone.

What to do if my phone got wet

Take the battery and sim card out, and immediately soak it all in dry rice, the rice should absorb the moisture, and hopefully save your phone.

I recently jumped into a pool with my cell phone in my pocket (SAMSUNG Reality). I realized it 10 minues or so after. Dried the phone. A day later, the phone will turn on when connected to charger...

When phone gets wet NEVER try to turn it on. Take battery out right away shake water off and put both in bowl of rice for at least 24 hrs. If your not home or don't have rice right away take battery out and get some. We have a bowl of rice on the counter all summer long for those who jump in the pool with phone in their pocket. I have washed them dropped them in the toilet my son jumped in pool with his phone, put it rice for 24 hrs and we were up and running with the exception of the one in the pool, that one cost me new battery on Ebay ($4.95) but phone worked fine, didn't even lose contacts or pictures. But the key is to NOT try to turn it on after its been wet. Water and batteries don't mix.

Phone got wet.

Most likely the screen display had a shortcut. You need to replace it, although it's not cheap. Expect to pay a little less than the full price of the phone.

Next time spend more time drying the phone, you can even use a bowl with rice to immerse the phone and leave it dry for one full day.

My phone got wet

Try removing the battery, using a blow dryer to air everything out in battery compartment. If there are any tiny screws or way to open up the phone itself, open it up, and blow everything inside there too.

Let it dry out completely and then see if it will work again. My guess is no, because once the circuits get wet, they are pretty much damaged and irrepairable.

Hope this helps at least some. Good luck!

My cell phone briefly got wet in our pool. We have dried it out and now it only works off and on.

After getting a phone wet, the best way to dry it out safely and quickly is to pull the battery and bury the phone in a bowl filled with (uncooked) rice for a day. The rice acts as a desiccant and remove any excess moisture.
If the phone still does not work correctly, it may be time to find a replacement.
