Question about Navman S70 4.3 in. Car GPS Receiver

2 Answers

I have downloaded update maps for my S70 3D Navman, on to my computer, but when I enter the authorisation code and try to transfer the maps to the device, I get an error message asking me to check that it is turned on and connected to the computer. It is, and I have tried different USB cables and slots, but the problem remains. Customer support told me to re-download the maps to My Documents, but that didn't make any difference. Help - please!

    Hi alpug,

Thanks for the advice but I don't think a faulty/degraded USB connection is the problem. Device manager tells me that there is a USB mass storage connected to the computer and that it is working properly - so it is being recognised; also, I have checked the USB terminal and it appears to be in good condition. Could it be software related? The message is only displayed when I am trying to transfer the maps via NavDesk.

    Thanks

Thanks knindza22. I did download a patch for the NavDesk software which should perform the map transfer. The strange thing is that the Device Manager (on Control Panel) accepts that I have a USB mass storage device connected, and that it's working properly, but NavDesk is telling me that I haven't. Bizarre!

The only thing i can think off would be is if you did not download drivers that support your navigation device or even software that is used to do uploads of maps.
This link has software updates for different devices but not sure do you already have this.Other places are mentioning CD disk that is used to do this.

Hope this helps.

The usb might be recognized but as you suspected and i also think same is the software it self because usb might be recognized by Windows but that does not mean that driver is 100% compatible for the software. In this case i would definitely check with tech support again. Sorry not any more help.

Hi, your computer cannot detect your gps reciever mostly the cause of this is poor contact of the usb connector from the GPS to the USB port of your computer.Try to clean the USB input of your GPS receiver.remove any corrosion found in it and make sure that the terminal joints of GPS are alligned and in place.good luck!

Hi I have a Navman Model s30 and I accidently removed the UK & Ireland maps because i was trying to update them, however I do not have the cd with pre installed maps and I can not seem to find any site...

Well I don't know whether you have purchased maps before, but for your navman model, i would advise you make a purchase of the latest (2010) western Europe maps from here.
Please let me know if my answer is not satisfactory.

Try this: 1. Connect your device to the computer 2. Make a backup of your addresses and favorites if you wish 3. In File Explorer, right click on the device (removable drive) >> Format 4. Start the Desktop 5. Go to My Mio >> Reinstall the software 6. Go to My Mio >> Recover Keys 7. You can now reinstall the maps from the Maps tab. If you downloaded a map update, make sure to use the downloaded file. 8. Go to My Mio / Voice Transfer and re-install the voice files

I want to update my model how do I do it and how much will it cost

Depends on what you mean by update. If you want to exchange your unit for a newer model, that is between you and the dearler/seller.

If you mean that you want to update the software in your unit to more updated maps, then do this:

Go to this site, and select your model, then choose update maps. You will likely have to download the maps file to your computer, then transfer then to your device. Instructions should be on the Navman website.

Navman s30 3d 2009 map update is useless

You should be able to install your old map from the DVD/CD that originally came with your Navman - you don't need a Product Key for this, even if it prompts you for one.

It appears that the commercially available 2009 map for the S-Series does *not* cover the S30 3D, just the non-3D versions, although that's not at all obvious from what's on Navman's web-site, so you have my sympathies if you bought it expecting it to work...

Loading TomTom one maps for northern France

Hi,
First you need to have the relivent map on your SD card. Typicly this will be the Tomtom Map " Western Europe ". When you purchase maps from TomTom you also get an activation code and instructions telling you how to install the map onto your device and how to authorise it using the code that comes with it.
Before doing anything ... BACK-UP your existing data ( the whole SD card ) onto your computer . This will ensure that if any update is unsuccesful you can at least return things to the way they were before you tried to update.
There are several ways to obtain maps
  • buy a new TOMTOM SD card for your tomtom that containes the required maps. Make sure it comes with the authorisation card.
  • buy a CD from TomTom or a TomTom authorised dealer . This CD will contain the required map so you can download the required map to your own SD card. Make sure it comes with the authorisation code AND instructions.
  • buy the required map from TomTom online . You can download it to your PC , then copy it onto your SD card later. It will come with some instructions and authorisation code ...... You can also use "TomTom Home" software and this does most of the job of downloading maps ( that you buy from tomtom ) and puts them onto your sd card for you in a semi-automatic way . If you go down this route then its best to be sure you have the latest version of TomTom home software by going to the TomTom website first.
With ANY of the above methods------- BACK UP your existing SD card first . In fact ... make a BACK UP NOW , then if anything goes wrong at any time , you can at least revert back to your backup.

Good Luck

Navman in no longer offering map support for it's iCN 510. This means if there is a new road or community, this unit will not recognize it.
I am really mad about this. I spent $400 2 years ago for something that will not have anymore map updates. Here is there reply when I wrote to them about it. Class action suit anyone?

Dear Henry,

Thank you for contacting Navman Technical Support.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. Navman has decided not to release further map updates for these device due to changes in technology over the last year. We have changed the chipset1.gif and software1.gif platform and are unable to update this device. The Navman 500 series was released with an updated map version last 2005.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us, we'll be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Ofelia
