I followed the instructions in my user manual which are illustrated in the video including pushing the brush bar button twice. After this did not resolve the issue I called Dyson support and was told to lower the vacuum into the cleaning position, turn the vacuum power on and depress the brush on/off button for ten seconds. This resolved the problem.

SOURCE: switch for roller brush not

mikerobin143 's solution
Apparent common failure is that either the thin yellow and or blue motor drive wires that run from the LH side of the vacuum where the "control board" is located down into the hinge / ball area become stretched and then fray and eventually break. You need a Torx screwdriver to remove the LH panel ( 4 screws) and also an access panel (2 screws) at the side of the ball which permits access to the blue / yellow wire connectors. I replaced with a new wire and connectors having fed the wires through the access hole making sure sure enough wire was available for the movement of the handle. Also ensure that when the covers are replaced they do not trap any wires underneath.

Which way do the ridges go on the brush roller of an Oreck XL

If you are talking about the ridges on the bearing blocks at each end, here is how they go. If it is a new brush or less than a year old, the side with multiple ridges will face up as you put the brush roller into the machine. If the roller is no longer pulling against the carpet or it is more than a year old, turn both bearing blocks to the side with only one notch showing. That will lower your brush closer to the floor and let it pull against the carpet. If you have it in the lower position and it does not pull, you may need to consider replacing the brush. Hope this helps.

Why does the roller not go round on my dyson DC24

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Hi, i have a panasonic eco max, the brush has stopped going round, the belt is as new and brushes clean.suction good from hose. Any ideas please? thank you

The brush on this model is controlled by the on/carpet/floor switch and will only work in the carpet position. If the suction motor is running then it could be the roller brush motor, but it's more likely to be the microswitch which stops the brush motor when the handle is returned to the upright position.

Buy the brush over the web etc..

    To take the brush out
1 - Take the outer covering - uese a penny to turn the yellow srews

2 - Slide the black brush out from the assembly - Try the non belt side first.

3- Slide the belt out of the brush.

4 - Take brush out - Replace it with new one.

Ny Panasonic MC-E4013 has lots of ****, but the brushes don't pick up from the carpet. The drive belts are not broken and the brush roller goes round OK.

Usually, shen you have this problem, there is an obstruction of dirt etc. somewhere in the suction path.
You need to take the vacuum apart and clean thoroughly first.
    Then get back to me.

    Belts keep burning up

It sounds like you have a roller problem. This machine has a carbon fibre roller suspended on plastic end caps. When dirt and hair etc. gets in and damage the bearings, the belt will be the first thing to go. If the roller is noisy, that indicates that it is off centre and is rotating unevenly. You will probably have to replace the roller.
Take the belt off and rotate the roller slowly and observe the ends. If it is off balance, it will not rotate evenly. The plastic caps unscrew to reveal the brngs and usually you will find hair and other junk gumming up the works. If the roller is damaged, you will be able to see melted plastic and chards of carbon fibre there.
