    THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME. I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A 1994 HYUNDAI LANTRA SEDAN FOR MY SON AS HE IS ON HIS LEARNER PLATES. AS BOY'S WILL BE BOY'S THE STEREO WAS HIS MAIN CONCERN AND IT DIDN'T WORK. I HAVE REMOVED THE OLD STEREO WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL IT CAME TO THE WIRING. I HAVE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NEW STEREO WHICH DETAILS THE COLOUR OF EACH WIRE AND WHAT IT IS FOR, HOWEVER, MY PROBLEM LIES WITH THE OLD STEREO WIRING IS DIFFERENTLY COLOURED AND I DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHICH WIRE IS FOR WHAT. THE OLD STEREO HAS A SEPERATE FUSE BOX, THE NEW HAS A FUSE IN THE STEREO ITSELF. ALL I HAVE TO GO ON IS THAT THE HARNESS ITSELF FOR THE OLD STEREO HAS NUMBERS ON EACH OF THE PLACES THAT EACH WIRE IS CONNECTED TO. I WAS HOPING YOU COULD PLEASE TELL ME WHAT NUMBER POSITION OR COLOUR IS FOR EACH COMPONENT,( EG: LEFT FRONT SPEAKER WIRE (+) IS POSITION 4 ON HARNESS AND COLOUR WHITE/BLACK ), I KNOW THATS NOT THE RIGHT INFORMATION BUT THAT IS HOW I WAS HOPING YOU COULD EXPLAIN IT TO ME PLEASE.

Hey, ok firstly I cannot tell you how the old harness is but i can walk you through finding how it is.. You need a digital multimeter. have the old radio out ad the harness exposed.

  1. make sure ignition is off and key out of system, connect the ground from the multimeter to the key hole (where u put the key in to start.
  2. touch each wire from the connector of the old radio,, you will find one with 12 volts thats your battery wire.. cut it off table it up and label it.
  3. now turn the ignition on, connect the ground lead to the key or anther metal unpainted part of the cars body,,
  4. touch each wire again, you will find 1 with 12 volts )not the battery one), cut the ignition off and remove the key, the wire will go dead, cut it off, tape it up and label it, ACC or accessory wire.
  5. cut the black wire off its the ground. tape and label it.
  6. you will be left with wire pairs, 2 green 2 blue etc. these are the speaker wires..
  7. hook up the new radio, (except speakes) turn on ignition and turn the radio on, play a cd or something.
  8. turn volume up and connect each pair of wires 1 at a time to the new radio 1 channel amm say frount right,, this will cause the speaker to play in the car so you can label the pairs of wires to which speaker they belong too.
  9. once you find the 4 speakers and have them labeled, hook them up,,
  10. enjoy your music.

I think you have forgotten to mention the main details of the make/ model of the set you are referring for the connection circuit details.
Most of the car stereos have a manual or slip along with the connection details of the speakers, front and rear and also the power connections, standby and main.
Please specify by colour code.

    To make things much easier please follow these tips as the wiring harness may vary and it is easier to connect other wise.

    First of all using a multimeter with one end conneccted to ground and the ignition switch in OFF position check for power +B as always ON next tuen switch- first point accessories mode, check on the harness for positive, then mark as the switched +B. Now using the meter check out the other terminals for voltage and on these- 8 of them in pairs- connect the meter to read about 4-8 ohms which will be the four speakers. Use a 1.5 V cell with wires to connect to these pairs as they will sound and mark them as FR,FL,RR,RL.
    Connect your Sony to these speakers and connect the power -ACC normally red and standby switched- normally orange to them. have the ground connected to the harness which can be determined by the multimeter as a full short with body chassis.
    Now your set is truely connected. please follow these tips and you can connect them easily.

Suburu radio wire harness. trying to match up with a new soni deck

Hello uze7, Here is the wiring match up for a 2009 Subaru Forester using the Metra 70-7552 wiring harness: NOTE: The actual harness will be listed as a Nissan harness, but has been used by Subaru since 2007. Also, I'm assuming that your Sony deck uses the standard color code. If not, you should have a manual that lists the function along with the colors. Match the wiring by function, not by color (although the colors may be the same). 2009 Subaru Forester Radio Wiring Color Code: Battery BLUE/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Accessory YELLOW/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS Illumination VIOLET (+) RADIO HARNESS Dimmer BLACK/WHITE (-) RADIO HARNESS Power Antenna YELLOW/BLACK (+) RADIO HARNESS LF Speaker (+) BROWN LF Speaker (-) BROWN/WHITE RF Speaker (+) BLUE/WHITE RF Speaker (-) BLUE/YELLOW LR Speaker (+) WHITE/BLACK LR Speaker (-) RED/YELLOW RR Speaker (+) GRAY RR Speaker (-) GRAY/RED Metra Harness: Yellow ? 12V Constant Red ? 12V Accessory Black - Ground Orange ? Illumination Green
Antenna Trigger Black/Red

Front Speakers 4" Dash
Left Front (+) Pink
Left Front (-) Purple
Right Front (+) Green
Right Front (-) Blue

Rear Speakers 5 1/4" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+) Black
Left Rear (-) Yellow
Right Rear (+) Red
Right Rear (-) White

I a '83 camry, there are 2 seperate plugs that go into a factory radio.
One for Power/and front speakers, and the other for rear speakers.

Sounds as if you are missing part of the harness for the rear speakers (or it is shoved in the back of the dash unused by the previous install). If there is not an un-cut plug in the dash - your only course of action would be to run your own set of speaker wire to the rear.

See this picture... these are the plugs that should go into your factory radio....

Metra kit 71-1938 will go from your factory wiring directly into your factory radio.

Stereo wiring chart

If you go to anyplace that installs car stereos you can purchase an installation harness that will connect directly to your factory harness in your car. That way you would only need to wire your Kenwood harness to the instllation harness and that is just a matter of matching colors from the Kenwood harness to the installation harness. All you need to do after that is plug it in.

The wiring on the Kenwood harness is as follows:

yellow = constant 12 volts
red = ingnition (12 volts when key is turned on)
black = ground
white = front left speaker positive
white w/black stripe = front left speaker negative
grey = front right speaker positive
grey w/black stripe = front right speaker negative
green = rear left speaker positive
green w/black stripe = rear left speaker negative
purple = rear right speaker positive
purple w/blackk stripe = rear right speaker negative
blue = power antenna
blue w/white stripe = remote amp turn on
brown = phone
orange w/white stripe = illumination
