Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

1 Answer

Hi i am having a problem with my acer aspire 6930 i think my hdd crashed recently, here is what happened i pressed power and the machine would not load to windows and with further check the hdd was not coming u in the bios so i replaced the hdd with a seagate 500gb sata, now this hdd is read just fine in the bios, i do to boot from cd and try installing windows 7, at first it looked like all was well until it passed over an hour and the install was nowhere near finished anyway this took 3+ hours and when it is rebooting to complete the installation, after it boots pass the bios it goes to a blank screen with a blinking line at the upper left of the screen, 5 mins after the line stops blinking 10 mins later it says starting windows 5-10 mins later the animated windows icon comes then that takes anther 20 mins to boot to the home screen, now i know this is not normal but cannot get any advise about it and i am forced to believe the motherboard may be faulty but i need advise in case i am missing something i am desperately seeking help.

It almost sounds as if it is lagging greatly. Windows 7, just like Vista before it required a lot of RAM memory to help it along. Unlike Vista, Win7 only recommends 2 gigs of ram, and a minimum of 1. If your computer has one, it has the bare minium and can cause a slow down like that. Windows XP sounds like the previous OS you had (based off of the model of acer you referenced). That ran well with 512 - 1 gig of RAM.
So if that is the case i woukd suggest to increase your RAM. I suggest tigerdirect.com or newegg.com. Stores like Best Buy will just rip you off or severely overcharge you.
You can go to www.corsair.com to find out was RAM memory is required for your computer using there Memory finder tool.

Have you tried to format, and re-install one more time? To see if it is consistent? It still sounds like a RAM issue. I would advise that that you run memory diagnostics using Memtest86 by going tohttp://www.memtest.org/ and downloading the free utility and running it as specified. Slow downs like this are very much associated with bad RAM more than an issue with a bad motherboard. If the motherboard would be bad, chances are you would get more BSOD (Blue Screens of Death).

Hi,
Try taking the system memory out and reseating it, the memory is located underneath the laptop behind a panel like this >>>>

Clean the contacts on the ram and reseat it then try to boot again.
Make sure you remove the battery and the AC power supply before you remove the ram cover.

Good luck
