If the data stored does not contain audio then it is possible that there was an error in the audio section that did not record.
SO you will need to redo once again after testing the mic or the input to confirm if recording takes place. if not I would advice that the cam be shown to Sony Service than to take a trial on delicate circuits within.

Can you upload the video from the Sony Handycam DCR-TRV11 Mini DV Digital Camcorder to a laptop computer

Yes, there are ways of doing this. Your camcorder has the Sony iLink (Firewire) cable connection and a standard composite video and audio connection. Most laptops today have USB ports and not much else. So the process is not straightforward but it can be done with some extra effort. If you know somebody with a desktop computer that has a Firewire card, you could go directly from camcorder to computer, then copy the video to a USB thumb drive and then insert the thumb drive into the laptop and copy to the video to the laptop.

Another way is to buy a composite video to USB adapter with software. This way you use the RCA cable connection from the camcorder thru the USB connector to the laptop. There are many products like this. Make sure you get one compatible with your operating system.
Look around but here is one:
http://www.amazon.com/Camcorders-Capture-Adapter-compatible-H35/dp/B0012HQFJK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1299852017&sr=8-4

Install the software and drivers for your system and play tape on the camcorder to create video on the laptop. Many people have problems with this method but it should work if you do some research on the web about the process.

Sony DCR-SR200 screen slowly "scrolls" vertically like the V-Hold on an old television

After researching various flexible cable numbers from different posts, I found that the SR-200 uses a unique cable, FP-610, part number 187145711. This has been discontinued and replace with part number 187145721 (same cable also used in DCR-SR300).

If you are in doubt with your camera, just take it apart up to the point of seeing the ribbon cable. The part number is printed on the side.

I found two sources for this so far, www.nexttronics.com and https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-parts.aspx. Price ranged from $30 to $40 plus shipping.

Some problem with sony dcr hc-40

USB cann't make your video transfer. You can do it with a fireware cable only (other name - "i Link"). You have to buy it (4x4 type). I hope your laptop has a fireware port. USB will help you only with your still images, and about Sony software - forget it for your video capturing. Just for your stills. Browse the net (yahoo, google...) and download a free WinDV software. Easy to use and very fast capturing program.
