Question about Clarion EQS746 Equalizer - 7-Band In-Dash Rotary Equalizer with Subwoofer Crossover Auxiliary Input Car Equalizer

1 Answer

I have a kenwood excelon kdc-x794 with 6 pre-amp outs. i'm running a swr-T12 off of a boston acoustics gt2-125 (2-channel). i have 2 alpine mrp-m1000's (mono amps) that i plan on powering 2 alpine 1223d's off of each amp. i'm interested in the clarion eqs746 1/2 din in-dash equilizer. i'm thinking that if i don't have any way to utilize my boston acoustics amp, then i might have to go to a 5-channel amp with at least 400 watts rms...preferably 500-600 watts rms. i plan on powering 4 speakers with at least 100 watts rms for each speaker. i don't know what what options i have available. what should i do" is there a way that i can hook it all up using the boston acoustics amp/ and, i'm definitely gonna use the swr-t12...unless there[s absolutely no way to do so. i noticed the clarion has in0uts and outs> what is the whole way to hook everything up?

i think you've got it down, minus one key point: my alpine mrp-m1000's don't have rca outs. they just have the outs to the subs. i apologize for the delayed response: most of my internet activity takes place on my phone; and, i just didn't have time to get back to the pc. i tried to reply on my phone, but it just wasn't gonna do it.

Man first of all let me tell you , You have enough equipment for small rock show !!!.
The Clarion EQ has only one set of inputs. In other words you won't be able to use the fader controls to adjust the front to back sound from the Kenwood unit. That should not be a problem if you are mounting the EQ in the dash. And also you will need an additional 4 channel Amp to power your 4 speakers other than your sub woofers. You will also need Capacitor Banks or your battery will be over loaded !!!
Connection are as follows
1) Connect the Kenwood Head unit RCA out ( either front or rear ) to the Clarion EQ Line In socket.
2) Connect the EQ Front & Rear out to the 4 channel Amplifiers 4 inputs. Connect 4 full range speakers to the out of the 4 channel Amp. Make sure the 4 channel Amp you buy is powerfull because your total sub output is very high. Unless you like only pounding bass with low level upper frequencies .
3) Connect the EQ''s Sub out to the Alpine M1000 Amp inputs. Left sub out to one mono block and Right out to the other mono block.Connect the two Alpine Sub Woofer ( 1223D ) to each of the mono blocks outputs.
4) Now from the Mono block Pre Amp out link a RCA cable to the Boston GT2 Amp inputs. One cable each from the 2 mono blocks to each of the Left & Right Boston inputs. This is called a loop through connection. You must have been wondering how to connect the second Sub Amp ?? Now in the bridged mode connect the SWR sub woofer to the Boston Amp output.
This should set you up for a concert level sound . Make sure you buy heavy gauge power cables for the Amps and don't run the system with out the car engine running !!! . Use Capacitor banks parallel to the Amp power cables. Red to the + of the Capacitor and Black to the - of the capacitor.Connect the capactiors using a short cable or as near as the Amplifier as possible.
Revert back for any further assistance. DRIVE SAFE and remember with this setup running you won't hear GODZILLA coming at 10 feet distance.

What amp would be better to use with what speakers/sub? I have a KAC-7202 kenwood 920W maximum power (150wX2 RMS, 4ohms) (230wX2 RMS 2ohms) and then the other amp I have is a Alpine MRP-M500 mono power...

I'm using that Alpine right now for 2-12" subs and I have compared it to 6 or 7 other amps this month and most were 4 channel 150Watt/Channel Bridged to 300Watts x 2 and found the Alpine to be superior in both sound quality and loudness. The Alpine has also not turned off even with full volume for hours at a time, Very solid amp I was very surprised due to it's size!

I have a kenwood eXcelon KDC-X759 and after i hooked it up it just kept flashing code off, and it will take a cd but no sound and the radio works fine

does the cd seem to be working other than no sound? if so, are you running the audio through an amplifier? if you are using an amplifier, you may be using the antenna remote wire (blue) instead of the amp remote wire (blue/white stripe) to turn the amp on. when using the antenna remote wire it turns off when going to cd mode.

Front right speaker got wet, started cutting out. at the same time the rear right speaker started cutting. switched the rear speakers to opposite channels and this caused the right to work and left to cut....

the speaker getting wet will short it out. Shorting the output on any amp will ruin it. there is a right and left chanel with 2 outputs. Right chanel is damaged.

I have 2 6x9 speakers up front 4 6 1/2 3-ways

Hello rjmiller4039,

Although amps with 5 channels are pretty rare, you can get one. Alpine, Boston Acoustics, Infinity, JL audio, MTX, and Polk all have 5-channels ranging in price from around $350 up to around $1,000. The Alpine PDX-5 will output 75X4 watts RMS for the front and rear stereo channels and 300 watts to the mono sub channel. It is priced at $599.99 at Crutchfield.

Hope this helps.

INSTALLING A CD RECEIVER IN MY CAR

Some decks only give one pair of pre outs. Most 4 channel amps can use just a 2 channel input and feed the other 2 channels by the flip of an input selection switch. I recomend a 4 channel amp if you want to power front and rear speakers and be able to set the gains to blend properly, or you can run all 4 speakers at a 2 ohm stereo on 2 channels and run a sub on the remaining r channels. It just depends on how you want the setup to be nd to how much control you want. Let me know.

(How To?) installing kenwood KGC 9044

You'll have to use your choice of either the front outputs or rear outputs to plug into the eq. Most equalizers I've ever seen only accept 2 channels of input, then give anything from 2 to 6 channels of output, depending on the eq.
