The front USB header on the XW9400 board has a ground connected to pin #10. The USB standard #10 pin has nothing connected to it, so HP uses it to sense whether a connector is attached to the header.

I missed the front audio question. I don't recall offhand which side is pin #1, so I'll list them from back to front of the board.

GND; MIC sense; MIC 5VDC; NC; MIC IN; plug sense; OUT R; OUT sense; OUT L; GND

MIC and OUT sense short to plug sense when something is connected to them. Unless your audio plugs have a sense lead, these can be ignored.

Compaq dc 7600 small form factor, front usb and audio not recognized

Hello,
I am assuming you have moved the board to another case and have connected front-mounted card readers etc. but none are working. I would check in device manager and see if there are any devices with exclamation points beside them.....which would indicate that windows sees the device, but that you are missing some of the drivers for the board which can be downloaded from HP. If you have devices in device manager that are labelled "unknown device", then a program like SIW or unknown devices may help you determine which drivers to get. A safe bet would be to go to HP's download section and get everything available for that board.

Also, check the bios and ensure that "plug and play OS" is set to on or yes

I would also look in the bios/setup and ensure that the connectors on the board are actually turned on. USB headers on motherboards are pretty generic, meaning that you should be able to plug in pretty much any front panel device (audio, card readers, usb).

Please check these things and get back to me. If you need instructions on how to do any of this stuff, then get back to me and I will be happy to help further.

Hope this helps!!

My drive fall form table i was tryed it is not working and not able to read my data that drive needle getting tick tick sound coming what can do?

The continuous "tick tick" normally means low power on the device.
Means: Case board broken or hdd logic board fault.

Possible solutions:
- Try to change usb port and usb cable.
- If you have an usb power adapter try to connect it JUST for some seconds to see if the disk spins.
Warning: you can burn your disk because the classic usb omputer port use a 500mA max power while an USB A/C normally can offer up to 2000mA.
- Buy a cheap 2.5" hdd case and put on it your 160gb hdd because the board of the Apollo could be broken. In this case check before buying if you need a SATA or a PATA interface.

If nothing changes, sorry, your hdd is probably dead.

Plugigng of wire in board

Hello there,

Below is an image of *********** Board with number indication and wiring explanation. From your manual page 1-6 you can see the image below and 1-7 for the connector, jumpers, slots. as indicated in your problem I will only answer problems related to the wirings.

  • For the Front Panel

pcsyke_117.jpg
1. There are 8 wires from the front panel's casing, excluding USB connectors and front audio cable.

2. Just plug the front panel switch headers to the F_Panel main board connectors. 1 & 2 are positive, if the led do not light change polarity but Im sure it will.

Note:The mainboard provides a front panel connector for electrical connection to the front panel switches and LEDs. JFP1 is compliant with Intel® Front Panel I/O Connectivity Design Guide.

  • For the USB connectors

pcsyke_118.jpg

1. If your casing has a USB header on the front bezel you can put it on any connector. You can also purchase a USB module cable or an internal card reader and plug the headers to any of those connectors.

Note: Observe Polarity, do this Vcc, -Data, +Data, Gnd ,(NC) ground is always near to NC.

Plug it at your own risk, reference image are already shown.

  • Front Panel Audio connectors

pcsyke_119.jpg
1. Look for FP_Audio header from your casing and plug it to the connector.

*Asus recommend you connect a high definition front panel audio module to this connector to avail of the motherboard's high-definition audio capability.

Hopefully this information helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I HAVE A NEW CASE, & NEED TO CONNECT THE FRONT UBB & AUDIO LEADS. CAN YOU HELP, CHEERS

Hi there, first check the image below. You've got USB 3 and 4, and AUDIO section. For the USB, pins 1 and 2 represent front panel USB power on both 3 and 4. As for AUDIO connection, pin 1 is Front Panel Microphone input signal, pin 3 is Microphone Power, pins 5 and 6 are for Right Channel audio signal to Front Panel and pins 9 and 10 are for Left Channel audio signal to Front Panel.

You can find more details in the motherboard's manual, page 23 and 24.

How do you use/connect the blue USB 3 cable in the AZZA Hurrican 2000 case? Does it require a motherboard with a USB 3 connection? Or does it require a USB 3 PCI card? Right now it is just dangling into...

You need a usb header for it on your main board or you need an external usb 3 cable to run it to a usb 3 port at the back of your box.

What I'm not quite understanding is why you have the blue cable as well as a normal usb connector dangling from the end of it. When I connected both of those up to usb3 ports I shorted out my motherboard. Not good.

Also I'm not entirely sure that the blue cable works for me. I couldn't read my external flash drive with it.

Emachine t1840 wiring diagram power switch wire to mother board ?

Because there are so many different case and motherboard combinations sometimes it can be difficult following the instructions for connecting the front panel, USB header and audio header.

Below is a few generic guide that should stop some of the confusion with the labels on the wires.

***Please note this is a generic wiring guide and we can not guarantee it will work with every motherboard. Please check your motherboard manual first. Wiring the headers wrong can cause damage to the motherboard and case, this damage is not covered by the warranty***

another handy USB wiring guide can be found here http://www.directron.com/installusb.html

this maybe easier to follow

Pluging in extra usb ports/Mic and headphone jacks from the tower

Answer me this. You're case is an Antec tower? The motherboard is the Asus P4P800 SE ? Is this correct?
If you have you're manual you can see what goes where on the board for front panel connector page. 2-31. (This diagram shows you how to connect the front mic & speaker).
To connect the Antec's front USB ports plug the case USB front connectors onto USB56 & USB78 shown on page. 2-30. Most case wires are already set within their USB connectors & the Antec's front USB connector should fit right on the mother board's pin's. If you need you're user manual, download from Asus by clicking on this link. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P4P800%20SE&SLanguage=en-us

Good Luck!

A USB mouse will work but the PS/2 mouse failed. What causes it?

Hi melch, On the PS/2 mouse, chances are that the surface mounted fusible link/resistor supplying the +5VDC is open. It is normally very near the PS/2 port and marked [0] or labeled F???. This can be verified by measuring the absence/presence of +5 at pin 4 of the connector. In some cases, it is the I/O chip that gets damaged. Re "only two(2)USB port" aside from the 2 rear USB ports, the Asus CUV4X-C has another pair of USB connectors that are normally connected to the front panel of the casing. It is located very near the motherboard battery. Re "...prompting...high speed USB port...", normally by updating your OS (say XP to SP2) or downloading/installing latest VIA 4 in 1 Drivers should make your USB 2.0 compatible. Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
