Question about RCA RT2770 Theater System

1 Answer

RCA RT2770 fan is making a lot of noise. Started off quiet, but it's been getting louder and louder, now more so than the volume of the movies I watch. Should I clean it? Replace the fan? Junk the whole thing?

Hi,
Do one thing, Remove the fan from the player. In the fan there will be a specification sticker. Remove the sicker. Now you can see a hole in the center. its the bearing part of the fan. put one drop of oil in it. You can use any type of lubricating oil. rotate the fan leafs with finger for some time. after that re-stick the spec sticker. insert the fan in the player. power ON the player and watch. If available then try to replace the same. it will not cost a lot. just watch the following video for oiling the fan. its for a PC fan same for all dc fans.
ok

Testimonial: "By the time I'd gotten the answer, I'd already taken the fan off and thoroughly cleaned it. After re-attaching it I found my unit ran silently!"

I have a IOTA DLS 45 that is making strange sounds. The strange sound is variable and stops altogether at times. Is it the fan that would be making this noise? If not what else could it be?

About the only thing that could make noise is the cooling fan. Does it sound louder when you've just hooked up and started charging the batteries? When you've got a lot of things drawing 12v DC power? Only other noise might be arcing by a short circuit or crackling of a fire!! ;)

The receiver makes a humming noise when power is on

Is it the fan making noise? Sometimes you can put a little oil on the bearings and alleviate this problem.

Thought it was the western digital harddrive, bought a new harddrive and the problem is the same. The computer when running gets very loud. Now I am wondering if the problem is actually the power supply....

Your P.C. may need cleaning inside, Dust may of gathered in Fans, HeatSink, etc. When you connect things to your P.C. normally extra power is needed from help run the process. Hence why your P.C. gets more noisier and things get hotter needing the fans to cool them. Or your Power Supply Unit (PSU) replacing for more Watts.

Humming noise

If you are using a dimmer switch to operate the fan instead of a fan speed controller, that is the cause of the humming. If you turn down the speed to the lowest setting and the hum gets louder, then your controller needs to be replaced.

Sounds like a fan belt problem if its burning that bad for that long it's likely to need to be replaced by now. Tightened the same day it started may have saved the belt
