mine is a canon zr 850 same problem... i would love to avoid repair costs if anybody can help

  • mjhodges2 Mar 21, 2009

I have the same problem I kept opening the door to eject the tape and removing the battery while the eject was in proccess and finally the tape ejected. I have not put another tape into it yet because one of the gears that spins in the eject cycle is making a whirring noise like it is brushing against something as it spins. I can see the white plastic gear spinning at the center bottom of the carriage but I do not see what is causing the friction noise. At least I got my tape that had good footage on it, out of the camera. Can a $200 camera be fixed?

It's EXTREMELY tricky and runs the risk of causing further damage. I strongly suggest finding a local service center to perform work of that nature.

How old is your camera?
Seems it has weak capacitors in circuit.

Camcorder is dead, need to get the tape out!

I would not recommend trying to remove a tape that is stuck Because the eject and load mechanism is controlled by a motor and you have to supply voltage to in the correct polarity to get the camcorder to take the tape in or eject it, that means that you would have to disassemble it.
That is the case with all camcorders - analog, digital, new or old. If you need the tape I suggest sending it in to a shop If you can do the repairs yourself
Dismental the camera. Try to locate the power board. have a look at the components near the battery connector or the power connector. there you will be able to locate 3 to 4 safety fuses. check the continuty. if found open replace it or jump them and and try to eject it.
you can also try to locate the motor for tape deck loading mechanism. Remove the flex ribbion connector of the motor from the pcb, then try giving 3 volt supply from an external device to the motor in both the direction. in one direction it will move the deck outward, but be carefull when the cassette is being ejected a little portion of the tape may get damaged.

ZR25MC, DV tape can't be ejected.

The best way to get it out is take it to a camera shop of Best Buy. They didn't put a manual eject on the player. If you take it into a shop they should know what to do.

Once it's out clean the heads with a DV tape cleaner.

Removing dv cassettes manually

open the unit and look for a small motor that ejects the tape through a series of mechanical gears, slides and hinges. Now turn this motor by hand.

Tape cover/container will not stay in closed position

Hi Eagle, Just faced the same problem with our school Panasonic NV-DS65. Had a serach on th3e net and found some info at http://www.pechorin.com/m/2006/02/10/Panasonic_NV_DS65_not_functioning-255044.html I wasn't exactly sure what the 'mech connector jock' was but opened up the bottom of the camera anyway. There are seven screws and nothing falls out when you remove the cover! Now I didn't remove or clean any 'jocks' - but with the bottom off you can see the inside a lot better. At this point I just tried to see what held the cassette in place and pushed on the black platye at the bottom of the cassette bay (and probably a couple of other capstans too). Then I inserted the cassette and much to my amazement it clicked back into place. So, not sure if you'll have the same luck, but it really does just appaer to be a mechanical (and fixable) problem.

Cassette Jam

The most frequent cause of this type situation is not having a power source attached, or a depleted battery pack. Once the power source is available, some models require manually unlatching and opening the cassette compartment cover. When the cover is fully open, the videocassette will eject automatically. Please try the following procedures. 1. Attach the power source to the camcorder correctly or use a fully-charged battery pack. 2. Fully-open the cassette compartment cover until it stops while sliding and holding the OPEN/EJECT switch. The videocassette will eject automatically after a few seconds. If the videocassette still will not eject, seek assistance from a Canon Service Facility.
