Egr valve chevy lumina '97 3.1 lumina ,i pulled the egr there was a white greasey substance in it as well as well as the passages to the throttle body and and exhaust, what is it,where did it come...

that sounds as if your engine breather system requires cleaning, the substance is emulsified oil, normally caused by poor oil, lack of oil changes, or possibly head gasket problems, clean out all the breather hoses, filter etc, run engine until warm, drain engine oil and refill with a good quality oil, renew oil filter and then run and check again after a few miles

Oil leaking out of air filter

First check manifold breather . when you take carb off theres a lil hose that connects to the breather on the side of the motor . Replace it. If it still doesnt work check level of oil if its overfilled that could be your problem. If that doesnt work pull the head off look for a blowed spot in your gasket . If it is it will pressurize your motor pushing oil out of your carb.

Oil cap and dipstick covered in creamy sludge, is this breather prob as not losing any water

Yes, it could be that a plugged up Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve or engine crankcase breather (with filter) is the cause allowing moisture to condense in the crankcase. However, if the valve and breather are okay, a cylinder compression test should be done to verify that the cylinder head gasket is not leaking. Regardless, the engine oil should be drained and the engine flushed with clean oil and an appropriate crankcase flush additive. Entrained water in the oil (the creamy sludge) will damage engine bearings quickly.

1979 briggs and stratton 11 hp how to fix

If it is, as you say, a 1979 or so engine, the crankcase breather could have well worn out. This will cause the oil burning and blowby. Replace the breather as an assembly, they are cheap and available from any Briggs dealer. The leaks are probably loose bolts and/or bad gaskets. You will just have to figure where the leaks are and replace the appropriate gasket. The breather could also cause the leaks so do the breather first then run it for a while to see if it is still leaking

Oil spray onto underside of cat...v70 2.4 turbo AWD. Possibly turbo oil return pipe, oil seperator is part of block........not the external black one.

there is a seal on t hr breather box that could be leaking if there is oil across the oil pan if it is only on underside of car then the turbo return is leaking that is most common probably 10 dollars for gasket and seal and easy to change

Leaking tranmission shaft seal

Hi there. I’m not exactly clear which transmission seal you are referring to, but no matter, the first thing I’d check-out is the breather system on the transmission. Every transmission builds-up pressure when being driven and if the breather is blocked; the internal pressure within the transmission is strong enough to force oil out the weakest areas – that of course being shaft seals. So firstly check out the breather system to ensure it’s not blocked, it might save you having to replace a seal unnecessarily. Hope this help, Scottech
