SOURCE: Refrigerator stopped working / only makes a dull clicking noise

Your Compressor is not running and the overload is the tick click I'm believing follow these steps below to help you decide:

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} . To Decide if Either your compressor is broken inside or the start components are not working properly.
Parameters’ are as follows and must MUST be true before continuing:
1 Condencer coil (outside coil) Clean and open for a ir flow
2 Condensor Fan motor is running and turning at enough speed and correct direction.
3 Voltage to the compressor is correct and supplied.
4 Decide if the compressor is Hot or warm or cold to the touch for future reference.
Cold or Hot
Could it be the compressor not running or that it has overloaded?
If you suspect the compressor try to follow this to decide your next step:
These little helps allow you to get the compressor running or decide that it needs replacing
1 Ohm the compressor terminals to ground and across to each other.
A. If any read anything to ground the compressor is bad. No Need to go further.
B. If the compressor is hot and you read through some points on the compressor motor (pins or terminals) but not through others wait up to 24 hours for an internal over load to reset. Internal type, usually AC and larger Refrigeration Compressors. Smaller refrigerator type compressors have an external over load. After 24 hours off or yours has an external overload re-ohm and see if all have readings to each other. If these read open IE No resistance between each other the compressor is bad.
Results your looking for:
Your readings between the compressor terminals should all be different and you should have 1 low 1 medium and 1 high resistance reading.
Add the low and mid reading together and the sum should be close to the highest reading. If it reads say 20% more or less then retest it a couple of times to confirm your not slipping on the terminals.
After 3 or 4 tries if the results don’t add up the compressor motor is bad. Replacement is required. Is this machine worth a new compressor? Is it still under warranty? Is the labor and all parts covered?
2 Assuming the above checks out:
Get a new Start relay (start capacitor if so equipped) relay and overload (and run capacitor if it has one) In other words everything that is external and attached to the wires or terminals on the compressor, and replace them on to the compressor. Then if it starts problem solved if it still does same thing the compressor is bad (broken mechanically inside the compressor) and you have to decide to replace compressor or replace the refrigerating compressor be it AC or Refrigeration..
A few times I have gotten a compressor to start after leaving it off for 6 to 12 hours then retrying it. See the compressor unless left off for 6 to 12 hours and sometimes as long as 24 hours Is tight due to linear expansion from heat. And about 1/2 the time it is ok after new start components are installed. The other 1/2 the compressor will be ok for a day or 2 then stop again. Most likely from a “hard spot” in the movement of the internal parts in the compressor.

30 years of doing refrigeration and this has not changed.
Please rate me as high as you can and ask me to clarify anything you don’t understand.

That model refrigerator uses the mother control board for deciding when defrost is to take place. It has no defrost timer or Adaptive Defrost Control like other refrigerators. This sounds like *********** board part number WR55X10942 is malfunctioning. The board decides most functions of your refrigerator. Until the board is replace I do not believe the problem will resolve itself. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Sounds like you have a bad main control board . The original pt # is WR55X10552 . The replacement board is WR55X10656 . Your original board , is on a recall list , and GE should come out and replace under an extended warranty .

The adjust temp numbers on my GE side by side fridge went out

Try this 1. First make sure the machine is turned on and running, both fans and compressor should be running. 2.Then unplug the machine for minimum 2 minutes. 3.Restore power to the refrigerator and wait 2 minutes. 4.Control diagnostics test using the display does not use error codes to identify problems. Instead, the temperature display allows access to components or systems to be checked if a problem is detected. 5.The temperature display must be in an active mode before entering the self-diagnosis test. 6.If the display is blank, press any temperature button once, then release it. The display will show actual temperatures.7. Enter the diagnostic mode by pressing both the freezer temperature (COLDER and WARMER) pads and the refrigerator temperature (COLDER and WARMER) pads simultaneously. All four pads must be held for approximately 3 seconds. Blinking "00"s in both the freezer and refrigerator sections of the display indicates the refrigerator has entered the test mode. 8.Remove fingers within 5 seconds and press any pad to lock-in the test mode. The blinking "00"s will change over to solid (non-blinking) "0"s when the test mode is locked in Failure to lock-in the test mode within 30 seconds will time out the test and return the refrigerator to the normal cooling mode. 9.Use the temperature colder or warmer pads to enter 1 in the freezer display and 5 in the fresh food display and press any button. This will cause a system reset.10. Wait 30 seconds and try to adjust the temperatures again. If the problem still exists, remove the cover over the motherboard behind the machine.11. Measure the voltage between J4-2 and J4-3 You should have 12 VDC (do not disconnect the J4 connector).12.If the voltage is correct confirm the voltage on the display board J3-2 and J3-3 I 13.if the voltage is correct, replace the display board. If not replace the motherboard.

Fluctuation of temperature GE Profile

g.e has mother boards or computer board in them located on the back outside wall, your board is on the top left, part number wr55x10942,everything on your machine runs through that board, also look at the evaporator coil where the thermostat is,there's a sensor on the top of the coil,it looks like a white bullet,if there's a black ring around it where the wires connect to it you also have to change that too.wr55x10025.go here and look at picture,if your board doesn't have all the relays like on this board then you don't have the updated board
http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Main-Control-Board/WR55X10942/1531075the new board has all 7 relays and is the newest board.hope this helps and good luck with it.

To reset the panel display, press and hold the top left (Energy Saver) and top right (Alarm) buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds--the panel will beep and reset.
The panel will require a reset whenever the power is interrupted..

To change the temperature, press and release the
WARMER or COLDER pad. The SET light will come
on and the display will show the set temperature.
To change the temperature, tap either the
WARMER or COLDER pad until the desired

Evap fan stops running/low cooling, Unplug Frig Evap fan runs

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

We just purchased a ge profile refrigerator today, and cannot get it off of demo mode

You have to go into the Diagnostic mode to see if you can reset this issue or if the main board in back is bad. Here's how to do it:

To enter Self Diagnostic mode, both temperature control panel displays must be illuminated. A display can be illuminated by pressing an adjacent temperature adjustment button. When both displays are illuminated, set the freezer and refrigerator temperature settings to 5. Simultaneously press and hold all 4 temperature adjustment buttons for approximately 3 seconds. A flashing 0 in the refrigerator and freezer displays will indicate that the refrigerator is in Self Diagnostic mode.

For temperature control panels with single-digit displays, the COLDER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers up and the WARMER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers down. Use the freezer temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the freezer display. Use the refrigerator temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the refrigerator display. When a test code has been entered, the displays will flash to confirm the test. Press the HOLD button for 3 seconds to begin the test.

For temperature control panels with 3-digit displays, the COLDER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers down and the WARMER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers up. Use the freezer temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the freezer display. Use the refrigerator temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the refrigerator display. When a test code has been entered, the displays will flash to confirm the test code. Press any button other than a temperature adjust button to begin the test.

First, run the control and thermistor test:

Control and Sensor System Self-Test (0 7)
This test checks all five thermistors located throughout the unit. Once the test is initiated, the test code (0 7) will stop flashing and the thermistor test results will appear on the freezer display in the test order listed below. The thermistor test sequence number will not be shown on the display. If the unit is not equipped with the Quick Chill option, the third thermistor (quick chill) will display a 0 and 3 audible beeps will sound at the temperature control panel. This is not a failure if the unit is not equipped with the Quick Chill option.

Thermistor test results:
• P = Pass
• 0 = Failed
• S = Short to 5 VDC
• B = Bad amplifier

When testing has been completed, do the following :
• Enter code 1 5 to completely reset the system. Then press the Hold button (or any other button than a temperature button) to accept the code.

When you're done, unplug the refrigerator for 10 seconds and plug it in....if it does not run, the board is bad.
