Most monitors only have VGA or DVI inputs. the PS2 uses either a composite or a component connector. while the audio cables may be able to be connected fine, it generally isn't feasible to be able to connect the video without a conversion.
If there actually is a connector on the monitor, it may be as simple as switching inputs. there is usually an option on the front panel to switch sources if there are multiple inputs.
