Turn off computer unplug power cord and remove battery. turn the laptop upside down locate the door/panel that either says "RAM" of haves a symbol resembling a RAM card. remove the panel exposing the RAM, there will be two metal holders keeping the RAM in the slot. pull them away from the RAM card and the card should pop upwards then just simply take it out of the slot (remember just touching a RAM card can cause damage from static electricity take proper pre-cautions and be careful not to touch the black modules/chips on the card)

Just watch the image below. You have to unscre that one screw, remove the case and there you will have the RAM. Just move the clips from the sides for it to pop out.

How to remove RAM from compaq presario v3000?

1. Identify where RAM resides:
- On the front (you will either need to access the RAM memory by removing the front parts of the laptop (Keyboard, Touchpad etc)
- On the back ( usually a RAM memory door to unscrew)
2. After accessing RAM sockets, hold both metal prongs to the side. The RAM memory card will release from the motherboard.
3. Gently hold the ram card on a 45-degree angle and remove the card.
4. Install your new replacement RAM memory.

How to install PNY OPTIMA 2GB DDR2 667 MHz memory card in lap top

Turn the computer off.
Remove the battery.
Unplug the AC adapter.
Turn the computer bottom-up.
Look for a few screws that secure a small panel.
Unscrew those screws, and remove the panel.
If you've selected the right panel, you should see your current RAM.
On the LEFT and RIGHT edges, there are small "fingers" that are holding the RAM.
Gently pull those fingers away from the RAM, and it should pop-up slightly, and you should be able to remove the RAM.
Notice that the "notch" in the middle of the RAM is slightly off-centre.
Insert the new RAM into the socket, and gently press down, until those two fingers "click" to grab the new RAM.

Depending on your "old" RAM, you may have:
* one "occupied" RAM slot (1GB), and one "empty" RAM slot;
* two "occupied" RAM slots (512MB/stick).

So, you may have to remove one RAM stick, to expose an "empty" RAM-slot "hidden" under the RAM.
Or, the "empty" RAM-slot may be visible without removing the RAM.

Or, you may have to remove one of the 512MB RAM-sticks, in order to free-up a slot for the "new" RAM.

Replace the cover-panel, and screw it in.
Reconnect the battery.
Reconnect the power-supply.

Start the computer.
Click Start
Point at My Computer
Right-mouse click on My Computer
Choose Properties
It should display your CPU-speed and the "new" amount of installed RAM.

Can not find second ram chip

Remove both pieces of ram (mark them with a felt tip marker so you know which one is which), and clean the contacts on the ram and the slots with a pink pencil eraser. Be gentle though, you don't want to remove the gold on the contacts, just remove the oxidation and make 'em bright again. You can shape the eraser to fit the slot with a sharp knife - and be sure to remove the eraser debris from the slots with a soft brush (dry toothbrush is good) . If still no good try this:
  1. Remove both pieces of ram.
  2. insert the second piece of ram in the first slot (leave the other slot empty) If the second piece of ram is detected, then the ram is good, and the second slot is likely the problem. If the ram is not detected, then the second stick of ram is the problem. Confirm this by putting ram stick 1 into slot 2. If the known good stick of ram (1) doesn't work in slot 2, then the slot is dead. If this is the case, get a larger stick of ram for slot 1. Let me know if this helps or not.

Beeping on start up

Your motherboard has 64Mb built-in RAM and the video card needs some video RAM and has grabbed 8Mb of RAM which leaves the system with 56Mb of RAM. When you insert a 64Mb RAM module you have a total of 128Mb of which the video has grabbed 8Mb which leaves the system with 120Mb.
You can't change stop the video card from grabbing 8Mb of RAM, the RAM is essential for the video to work.
You can upgrade the RAM by removing the 64Mb RAM module and insert a 128Mb or 256Mb RAM module. You may even be able to insert a 512Mb RAM module if the motherboard will accept it, you need to check the specification of your laptop to see the maximum amount of RAM the laptop can handle.

Install ram

Is it an upgrade of RAM? If so, remove the new RAM and test the default RAM if you still have the problem. If the problem is solved, just reseat the RAM or better yet, remove the old RAM then just put in the new RAM just to identify which causes the problem.

Hope this helps.

You will need to remove the 2-512MB ram that are installed on your computer and buy 2-1GB sticks. There is no other way around this. Download CPU-Z program to find exact memory module needed before you buy the wrong one. Good luck.
