Google "bicycle shifting technique", for example:

You should NEVER run cross-chained (big-big or small-small). The drive train performs best when the chainline is as close to straight as possible.

Excess sideways stress on the chain will wear it out prematurely and decrease its normal efficiency.

To demonstrate this for yourself, put the bike in the same combination of gears you

Each control is binary - harder to shift in one direction, easier in the other.

The overrunning clutch (starter gear) is defective or the bendix is not engaging the starter gear on the clutch shell. You will need to remove the outer primary cover and the starter to replace the bad parts. You will need to diagnose whether the solenoid, starter clutch or bendix is the problem. That way you don't buy unnecessary parts. I'd try borrowing a known good solenoid from a friend first, then dig into the primary if the solenoid does not solve the problem.

How do I get the gears to work again on my Schwinn Mesa GSX Mountain Bike?

The shift cable is likely too loose, but there are multiple items to tighten, lubricate and adjust on just the derailleurs, let alone the rest of the bike, before it's safe and ready to ride. I would suggest you get some assistance from a more knowledgeable friend, a bike co-op or a bike shop.

My bike dosent change gears its stuck in nutral its a 79 ironhead i just cant figure it out

Rock the bike backwards and forwards while trying to shift the gears. If the lever moves up and down but the transmission does not shift, the shifter shaft in the transmission may be broken. When doing this test, make sure the final drive chain is on the bike.

Good Luck

How many rpms should i go on my honda cbr 600

hi,i dont know a lot about this particular bike, but,as with any high revving sports bike you will need to keep the revs up before changing gear,an 883 sportster has a lot more torque than your bike and you can "short shift "them and let the torque do the work, however on a cbr i think you will need more rpm before you shift as they dont have the torque of your old harley,a friend of mine has an r6 yamaha, that thing revs out to nearly 17000 rpm he doesnt change untill about 9 or 10000 rpm, from memory your bike should be capable of nearly 60mph in first gear..hope this helps...cheers

I have the same problem. Mines from an over-tightened chain. What caused yours?
