Hi, when I go to the Registry and follow the Path. There are no Upper Filters on the Right Pane. This really starting to get silly. I have rebuilt Laptops and I have never seen this problem arise.
I Know the Drive works because I can boot to a UBCD.
    Any other thoughts?

Hi, after a total XP install the drive is now seen. However if I run the chipset updates and the Optional drivers on the Dell site the Drive again disappears from the system. At this time it's seen. Now I'm trying to get Audio and Video codecs that don't crash My machine. I had a dell tech on a remote session and he ruined the machine completely. So...I had to reinstall the XP Pro yet once again.
Any thoughts about Audio and Video Codecs that will work? The driver on the Dell site is Corrupted. It also crashes the D600..
    thanks
    evan

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. I would like to verify if you can detect the drive on your Bios Page? Can you go to Bios and check if it is detected and please provide me feedback about it.

And just to verify if this is a D600 Latitude on the service manual it does not indicate a CD/DVD Rom but please check if it is on bios also check the connector

D600 Service Manual

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya

Try to tweak the registry. Please see procedure below. Proceed with caution since you will be dealing with the computer registry.

  1. Click Start , and then click All Programs.
  2. Click Accessories, and then click Run.
  3. Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  4. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  5. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  7. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  8. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
  9. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  10. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  11. Exit Registry Editor.

make sure that the cdrw-dvd rom is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the cd-dvd including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or the drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

I want to transfer the data from 2 small folders on my Dell 8W007-A01 drive (Optiplex) to my Toshiba laptop. Who would do this for me (and what would it cost)? Thanks Chris

You can do this yourself
Insert the disk into a working computer's CD drive and copy the folders onto an USB flash drive, then insert the USB flash drive into your Toshiba and copy the folders off the USB flash drive onto your Toshiba.

The door is stuck. I push the button, the green light flashes, but the door won't open. Dell Latitude/Inspiron CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive :8W007-A01

It is most likely jammed. If you look on the front of the drive, there should be a little hole. Use a paper clip that you have straightened out and insert it into the hole. When you feel resistance, push it hard carefully. The hole is an emergency/manual tray release. It should pop the tray out. If you can't get the tray to release and you have a CD or DVD in the drive, you will have to take the drive out of the system and take it apart to get the platter out. Of course this means you will have to buy a new drive as the old one will probably be unusable, even if you try to put it back together.
