Hi,
What you are hearing is the refrigerant going through the expansion valve...sometimes they will squeal as the pressure builds...depending on the valve the refrigerant has to push open a check valve and that will cause a noise...
The noise does not mean that you have a problem, and it will not hurt anything... nothing is broken, it just can be annoying...

Common Car Noises and Their Likely Causes Noise More Details Likely Cause Fixing It Clicking noise while turning Starts faint, gradually becomes more noticeable until very loud Failed outer CV joint (constant velocity joint) due to torn boot (most likely) or old age Replace either the whole axle assembly (recommended) or the outer CV joint Water pump noises Difficult to diagnose because of water pump's location Noise usually caused by damage to the bearings in failed water pump Only cure is replacing it. If possible do it at the same time as a timing belt replacement to cut down on labor costs Squeak or squeal from an engine belt Loud, high-pitched squeak or squeal Belts either need adjustment or replacing If belts only squeak when damp, they probably just need adjustment. If they squeak constantly, they probably need to be replaced Exhaust heat shield noises Rattle that you hear when car is idling Damaged heat shield Replace heat sh

Do I need a outside cooling unit for a Coleman 7900 Presidential lll gas heat and cooling unit

Yeah, youd have to look at the model on the Indoor coil box, furnace will be setting on top of it. Youll need the model off that coil box to get the correct tonnage of the outdoor condensing unit, you can go 1/2 ton smaller on outdoor for greater efficiency.

Can't find the source of the squeal

Year make and model ??
The belt could be glazed and slipping even if it is tight.
You could have a weak belt tensioner too.
The noise when the ac or heat is turned on can be the extra load from the ac compressor or the alternator. The compressor cycles on and off especially in defrost mode.
The load from the alternator is the first noise of the day. As the belt warms up it becomes better at handling the load of the accessories.
Even tho the belt looks fine, you may have to replace it to get rid of the noise.

Replacing a Coleman with a Duotherm, can the same thermostat and controls be used?

Hi, yes you can use the same thermostat if you are replacing the unit that has the same sequence of operation. What I mean is, if the old unit is a gas fired furnace and outdoor condenser split system for the a/c you can use the same controls, or if its a package unit. Now, if you are installing a heat-pump unit in place of a gas fired central unit, you will need to pull more stat wire and buy a heat-pump thermostat to make it run.

Noisy indoor air conditioning units

Ok. So first things first. LG have a reputation with all their products. THEY ARE ALL BAD! If you remember GoldStar, they are now LG. GoldStar had horrible products. Now this is what LG has. The fact that the filters are cleaned and the units are serviced is an abosulte plus and will provide the units with extra longevity. Now are these drains are they used for water drainage. If so the upstairs units shouldn't need them unless there is some sort of rise in the drain pipe.

Now to the noise. It seems like there is something which is causing the fan to make a noise. It could be loose bearing or a piece of the fan which has broken away causing it to hit the inside of the unit. Since it is on both units, it would be a generic problem with this series and unfortunately is what you are stuck with now.

To combat this problem, I would: ring LG and the company who installed them and demand that they be repaired and have a warranty on the repairs. Just a heads up, LG are really bad to contact should you have a complaint, so keep persisting that they be repaired free of charge since that they are still under warranty.

If you are not happy with LG or your installers response, I would remove the units and have another brand put in. I recommend Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Panasonic. Both units are whisper quiet. In fact they are quieter that the LG.

Oh and that only reason why LG boast about their "whisper quiet-ness" is because that is probably the only good going for them - and thats' not even right!

I hope that I have helped you in some way. Good Luck!

Heat Pump hums, clicks and does not come on sometimes

yes the start capasitor starts the fan motor and the contactor pulls together when the t-stat tells it to start and it has a spring in it that gets week , some brands of units have a delay in the outside units board to stop it from starting at the exact same time as the airhandler
