This is a symptom of a defective lid switch. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, check to make sure the lid strike in still intact. This is a small plastic piece mounted on the lid that pushes down on the switch through a slot on the wash tub opening on the right hand side. If this piece breaks off, it will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch. Next, check the two mounting screws on the right side of the wash tub opening to make sure they are tight. These are the mounting screws for the lid switch. Sometimes they come loose and the switch does not make proper contact. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it. A replacement can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the part will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. Please post back with your number if you need assistance in determing part numbers. This is a very simple repair that doesn't cost a lot. If you require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Washer fills but won't go through wash cycle and

Check the lid switch, assuming top loader. Most machines will fill no problem but for 'safety' the motor(and timer) won't run if the lid is open. Of course it could be the timer itself but usually other cycles will work fine.

Maytag_lse7804ace: washer won't fill with water. If I fill it by hand, the cycle works fine (until it gets to the rinse cycle, when it won't fill again).

Hello John,
The most probable reason the washer is not filling is because of a blown fuse that is part of the lid switch asm. By UNPLUGGING THE WASHER and removing the 2 INNER screws on the the control panel and the control panel can be rotated down to see the fuse in the lid switch asm. Here is where the fuse is on the switch asm. its circled in red 11_4_2011_1_39_54_am.jpg

The contact button (part where you put the door down to make the washer start to agitate) something came apart....washer is filled with water and now won't go. The part came out.

you broke the lid switch, send the full model number located under the lid, lift the lid up,follow the lid to the bottom and look right under it and you'll see the model number,it will start with like 110.

The washer turns on and fills up but then stops. If you bang the lid a few times it will usually continue on the cycle and be fine. You have to repeat the lid banging for every load though. The lid...

Sounds like the switch that the lid presses is either broken or has been knocked loose.

Or the little plastic or metal "switch actuator" (the little poker) that presses the switch has broken.

I believe the washer thinks the lid is open because it will fill up but wont't wash until it knows the lid is shut.

Washer won't do spin cycle....and won't start any cycle

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

Washer fills with water then stops

There are a couple of things that might cause this. One is the water level switch. The other is the lid switch.

On most washers, the lid switch only keeps the basket from spinning if you have the lid open, but on others the machine won't agitate either. So if the machine thinks the lid is up, it will just sit there.

While the machine is filling, the timer stops and waits for the level switch. If the switch isn't working properly, once the machine is full of water the timer doesn't start again. And the machine just sits there.

I would try the lid switch first as it's more likely to be the trouble. Here's a website with some good information on how to get at the parts and how to check them:

http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/washer/washer.php

These repairs are pretty simple if you're comfortable with a screwdriver and have a little mechanical ability. You can save a good bit of money over a service call if you try the repair yourself.

Good luck, and thanks for asking here. If this solution has given you what you needed, please take a moment to rate it.

Kenmore washer just stopped

This is a typical symptom of a defective or loose lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid, you should hear a clicking noise as the lid switch activates. The lid switch is usually located on the right-hand side under the washer casing rim. It is activated through a small slot, by a plastic piece on the lid called a lid strike. There are two mounting screws adjacent to the slot that hold the lid switch in place. Sometimes the screws come loose, or the lid strike breaks off, causing the switch not to activate. Or..the switch simply fails over periodic use. This results in the symptoms you describe. The washer fills, but fails to spin or drain. This is a simple repair that you can accomplish yourself. For step-by-step instructions, please refer to the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If you require assistance in locating replacment parts and/or have further questions, please post back with your complete model number (located aorund the tub rim), along with your comments. That way I can assure the accuracy of any part numbers.

NOTE: Use care not to slam the washer lid. This can also cause premature failure of the lid switch components.
